Title: Just been told I cant migrate my existing telephone number to our new house !
Post by: kinder clean on March 24, 2010, 06:55:11 pm
I'm moving house in a few weeks, only about 5 miles away.

It's still in the same area code of 01246 but they are telling me ( talk talk my current provider ) because its a different exchange I can't take the number with me.

This is a major headache, has anyone had the same problem and is there any way around it ? Other than telling the wife I want a divorce and staying putt i can't think of anything.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Can't you somehow just buy the number and then have it redirected to the new number? Maybe those 0800 numbers are good, at least you can take them with you ;)

I was lucky when I moved then... Actually, I still get calls for the woman we bought the first house down here from 5 years ago.... I just tell them I've killed and eaten her... they soon put the phone down ;D

Set up call divert from old number to new number for a couple of months until custy's get used to new number. With talk talk calls to talktalk are free so all they charge is .50p per month for it.Just have to pay rental on old number for the time.

I had the same paul about 8 years ago.

So what i did was take my old number and rent that from bt and had it diverted to my new number.
The only downfall was changing my numbers on my van and stationary etc.

Dont have my old nmber any more s i wrote to most of my clients and after 6 years on divert i was happy with the clients i had..

You can have a message that says, "The number you have called has been changed to................."
I have a mate who is a plumber who has recently had the same problem,
good luck
Mark

you could be right derek now i think.

Think it was a message as mark said that when you rang the number it gave the new number..

You would have thought with all the modern gadgets they could sort this now ::)

I had same problem and couldnt even rent old number, best getting an 0800 so if it happens again at least one number is still the same, or buy a local number that will always be yours?

I have got an 0800 number as well which I can take with e no problem, but the 01246 gets used on all my doorstep marketing.

Shaun I'm moving from Brampton to Middlecroft which is right next to inkersall.

Thanks

the idea is to try BT and others and see if their exchange areas are the same, so if BT or others have a bigger exchange area move your contract accordingly.

I'm with Ntl or Virgin or whatever it's called this month and will need to find a way to keep the number when moving.
So is it not possible to keep the number, pay for it as per normal, but not have affiliated to a property instead just have it diverted to another number. afterall i already do that when both of us are out by diverting it to my mobile.

it can't be done unless the guy i spoke to from BT was telling me porkies, but then, why would he.

think you can divert it for 6 months or something but it cost astronomical amounts of moolar.
