I've been doing some searches today to see where our website is in rankings, suprised to see its not even comming up when I click on it.
I've had this problem before called the website designer he said it goes like that sometimes at busy times? Is this right or is he talking rubbish?
www.kc-services.com
Thanks
Barbara

Load of rubbish, have you ever gone to a website and got a blank page? Change website designer asap! ;)
-
barbara
why dot com?
-
Why did you not use www.kesgravecleaningservices.co.uk domain for your new site.
The site I got up to No 2 position for you, remember.
(Not my design by the way. I just SEOed it.)
I think I have a good idea though.
All the best
Rab.

you for sale rab?
derek@affordablecleaners.co.uk
-
Hi Rab - Yes you did an amazing job on the SEO side of things but that site dosn't look as good as my new one but the old one is the best for SEO.
He showed me our old site on his i-phone & it wasn't showing pictures as he said it was an old version which wasn't recongnisable with i-phone - Got new site which was meant to be created to allow me to amend it whenever I wanted - 3 of the pages are locked! >:(
Where is my bloody website gone!
-
Oh sorry derek - website guy recommended it - he told me to cut the website name down from kesgrave cleaning services.co.uk as it was too many characters to kc-services.com but surely this isn't helping in SEO terms either.
Website designer told me when the server is busy!! it sometimes goes like that :o
-
bad advice, should of been .co.uk
-
He also told me he gets his website designers in america to do the work for him, this could be why theres a problem with the server? plus why he wanted .com?
-
Just checked Derek, the .co.uk has gone its reserved to someone in Avon. Most companys will buy .co.uk .com .biz etc etc and just redirect to the one of their choice.
-
" He also told me he gets his website designers in america to do the work for him, this could be why theres a problem with the server? plus why he wanted .com?"
I gets worse. Phone me if you want.
-
He did design the first one as I sat with him doing some of it. He's got all the gear & is good on the design side (u'd know if u could see it)!
What a nightmare :-\

That is just wrong info, get the info you need and get the old domain put onto new site and get it seod :o

Try Paston Chase at Paston.co.uk and talk to Malcolm
Great guy, hosting since the year dot (com!). Content managed (by you) sites, server never goes down, google analytics on the site if you want, full SEO service, all the guys in the office are really helpful, and none of them talk to you like a 3 year old like most nerds do!
-
You could have gone for kesgravecleaning.co.uk if he says too many characters in your original.
My home town one is warringtoncarpetcleaning.co.uk - thats a fair number of characters but it works ok.
-
Barbara,
I'm sorry but as the others have said, you've been fed a load of.......... Sadly there's a huge difference between a web designer and a web marketer.
1/ In the overall picture, .co.uk or .com is not really going to cause you any problems so don't worry too much. .co.uk would be better for a UK business but we are talking fractions in the overall situation.
2/ Where his programmers live / work is totally irrelavant and is deliberately misleading. You do not need a .com to outsource work to anywhere else in the world.
3/ There are a lot of factors involved in getting a site ranked. Whilst not absolutely essential, if you can get a domain name with the keywords included, it will help.
There is a marketing argument for short URLs but this is more relevant to well known household names who do not have to rely on search engine traffic (maybe big TV advertisers).
The great thing about yours is the age of the domain (the older the better).
4/ Server getting too busy? There must be a lot of traffic hitting that server!
5/ Most websites will probably look funny on an I phone. People are having to take this into account now but is it really that much of an issue with a localised carpet cleaning site?
6/ If he is hosting your site and it's not showing then it's his problem and should be sorted pronto.
Keep us informed, Garry

Hi
Just to let you all know I spoke to the guy today, he said a few of his other sites designed for his customers have also gone.
He said hackers have got into it & virus has caused this. He is going to speak to the american person/company who created it to see if they have a back up or a file to beable to put it back on the server :o, so hopefully they will have my website if not I'm in trouble. Yes Gary he is dealing with the hosting etc for me too.

Barbara,
My web design program is microsoft Expression 2. Rab, Doug, Ian etc should have something similar (maybe Adobe Dreamweaver).
On mine (and I assume the others) there is the ability to import a whole website from a server (assuming it is not blocked). If you get the site back, one of us should be able to download your pages and put them somewhere safe as a back up for you.
Hopefully that will not be necessary (I'm sure your web guy will have back ups)

;D Your right Garry. I`m laughing cos weve been here before with
Barbara other site. I retrieved the files and started again.
Its Dougs turn now ;D
-
Funny, I did have a feeling of deja vu on this one
-
Are you going to the CCDO Garry?
-
It's a toss up between that and a trip to a friend's house in Sandbanks
-
I`m in two minds. It would be good to have a bleather.
Come on Bob what ya think?
-
He is going to speak to the american person/company who created it to see if they have a back up or a file to beable to put it back on the server :o,
Surely if he built your site he should have a copy/back up of your site - to work on it :o Maybe he is not very good, or he is completely outsourcing it - getting someone to do the site for him ::)
