Title: Wet or dry cleaning?
Post by: Steve Weatherley on July 16, 2005, 08:47:20 pm
I have just bought a HOST machine (2nd hand). Having just read the manual I couldn't help noticing how many times they refer to how dry cleaning is better / safer / more effective than HWE for various reasons.
I have just contacted my local HOST supplier who has told me that he used HWE machines for 25 years in his carpet cleaning company (with several staff) before discovering HOST. He now says he would never clean a carpet with the wet system again! I have to say I find this quite hard to believe, however I am yet to use the HOST on any jobs yet so am not qualified to comment one way or the other.
Any of you out there who use both systems, please let me know your thoughts and comments.

Dry-cleaning systems are not in the same class as HWE for soil removal.  It always leaves powder residue in the pile which may come into contact with young children's skin or animal coats, & cause intense irritation.  I have not used mine for years, except for agitation of M/S.

Having said that, the system does have its uses & advantages,  shop carpets that can be walked on straight away for instance, and of course no shrinkage!

Hi Guys

As most of you know I am soley a Dry carpet cleaner and have been for almost 2 years.

My personal opinion is that from the start I did not want to go HWE, too many asscociated problems.

Yes, granules do get left in the carpet this is normal and does not cause any irritation as stated.

BUT....

Also with HWE you leave a chemical residue in ther carpet which can help with re-soiling and can be harmful???

At the end of the day, it is personal choice and a debate which wil rage until long after we are all dead and buried, and of course who really cares, as long as you are happy with both the system you use and the results you get there are better thing to discuss

Like Rons apparent self-confessed beauty ::)

Martin,

I will have to disagree with you when you say the residue causes no irritation.

I have a client who used to have her carpets dry-cleaned, but found that it was getting into the dog's coat & causing severe problems.  She took it to the vet & he asked her if she was having her carpets cleaned by that method.

This job was being done by a colleague of mine who only uses that method.

I was called in to HWE, (the carpets, not the dog)  and it solved the problem
