Hi, I live in a hard water area around a TDS of 200-250 & live in a rented ground floor flat with no way of connecting an RO & leaving it to slowly filter, I can fill a 650 ltr tank though with hose, I am just about to install my van system and think that I will have to just use DI to purify my water. I was thinking of having 1 vessel on the hose when filling the tank & another vessel coming out of tank to pole, does anyone plz have any suggestions on this idea or other ideas & what size vessels to buy??? I know this is a very expensive way to purify water :-( :-( but maybe the only way I can do it. thanx, Kristian.

Put your di vessel on the hose that comes straight from your tap, this way the water pressure will push the water through the vessel, saving your pump and battery doing it.
It will then be purified in your tank at all times.
Use a di vessel that is at least 11 litres, but the bigger the better, then estimate how many litres you think you will use and then use this resin estimator to calculate how much it will all cost you in resin

Don't do as Ronnie says!
Have both vessels in van & pump through them. There is virtually zero resistance through a DI vessel for water flow. "volume versus flow rate is key to resin performance. "
The slower the flow through the vessels the more efficient the resin is.
Another benefit doing it this way is that you can fill your tank from anywhere as you purify on demand. ;)

Turn your main flow from the tap down a wee bit. Simple. ::) You can also have the said di vessel in your van as I do, again ....simple.

If you have access to a hose cant you store the ro and filters inside the van and purify over night.

Why? & wait even longer for tank to fill. You could never turn it down as slow as it is when it's pumped from the van.
You can't lose having the vessels on the van, it's a win win! ;)

Better resin life
Fill from anywhere
No hose connected to van for lengthy periods of time etc.
What's the bennefits of doing it your way?

Wouldn't twin di vessels help keep the expenditure on resin to a minimum?
The first di vessel lowers the tds of the tap water, the second polishes the water to 0 tds.
As the tds level from the last vessel in the chain starts to rise it is swapped over to be the first di vessel and the other vessel is refilled with new resin and becomes the last vessel.

Yes that does indeed make perfect sense if you tds/ppm is high. If your tds/ppm is like mine 34 ppm then the difference is negligable and not really worth the bother for all the few pennies it will save.

Thanx Guys for advice, helps alot, as I have no access to park a van overnight to fill these ideas will prob be the way to go for me.

Hi Chris, unfortunately at the moment I live in a rented ground floor flat at harbour & landlord wn't allow me to fit an outside tap from my kitchen, I can fill a tank from a hose at parents house but cannot park van there overnight why it filters, :-( Eastbourne of all the places! Kristian.

Ive just looked back at your posts, you got a transit havent you as I say it parked in Willingdon yesterday, what size tank you putting in it, have you just set up of changing to wfp.

Hi Chris, yeah was me :-) I started in october with a pure freedom trolley system working out of my estate car, just bought transit few weeks ago, painted floor today & gonna put a 650 ltr tank in it next week. Kristian.

I ran 4 vans with no RO. It's not cheep. The most cost effective way of doing it is 2 D.Is (as big as possible) in series in the van. When you get a reading over 000, move the second bottle back to nearest the tank then replace the resin in the other, putting it back nearest the hose. This will reduce the amount of good resin that you throw away.

A relevant add-on to this thread.
As the puifying method you intend to use will be quite expensive, I strongly suggest you explore ways to keep your water usage at a minimum.
I don't know what you do already but these may include
1) using a small bore hose rather than half inch.
2) fitting some kind of trigger onto the pole
3) either using some kind of Varistream like flow controller to control flow OR having a return to tank system for un used water (to ease the strain the pump and help it last longer)
4) having some kind of flow controller at the end of the reel
5) using a low flow rate for scrubbing and a higher one for rinsing (this one could be fiddly though)
I'm sure that list isn't exhaustive but implementing some of that stuff could possibly halve your water usage directly saving you a fair bit of money.

Hiya, what was your TDS reading from your tap? mines around 250, I'm gonna go with this idea & also pure freedom reccomended 2 pre filters before DI vessells to keep resin costs down, do you think a good idea?. I'm filling a 650 tank, what size tanks did you have & how long it take to fill?

PureBrite do you not know any of the other local lads, Im sure someone could sell it to you at a monthly cost, this would surely save you money in the long run, I personally wouldnt want to be di only with the tds we have here as I had to fill my tank once straight from tap and it killed the resin so wouldnt want to do it again.....
