i dont think local newspaper will get you any new commercial clients, the reason for that is because many of them are approached directly by other companies and they have plenty of choice, last thing they will be doing is looking for a cleaning company in local newspaper, however this sort of ads may work for getting domestic clients.

Try lots of different methods...mail shots, mass emails, direct calls, face to face meetings, flyers....there is no one answer...eventually you'll find what works best for you.

hi there

ok you started this thread concerning office contracts and then have changed to domestic work.

may i suggest that you firstly concentrate your efforts into one area or the other, it is very difficult for you to focus on both areas, they require a different approach and are a different type of customer all together.

and with the kindest respect may i comment on the fact that cleaning is easy ! that attitude dosent do the industry the justice and the invoice values any favours at all.

lets look at commercial work, sales activity is the key, phone calls, cold calls, emails, etc etc, you need to be persistent, professional, and have some sales literature.

you will also need your insurances, method statements and risk assessments, COSHH all in order to mkae sure that stand a better chance than the competitors to win the work.

please do not fool yourself in thinking that this is an easy industry, as mentioned competition at the moment is fierce, and probably as competitive as it has been in recent years, the reason, -- as people have lost their jobs, they have looked into working for them selves so have started either gardening or cleaning businesses.

so i wish you well, and any other questions please ask.
regards

martin

Good points Martin!

It is especially hard for new companies at the moment, and as you correctly said there are lots of new startups in general and many of them don't want/can't afford to outsource cleaning.

Advertise your business. You can pass all these through emails, newspaper ads etc.It is not so easy to get customers in this business, but try to do your best to achieve your goal.

Thanks,

 Hi
I have tried all the above i think newspaper advertising is of no use really. A nice leaflet and business card are needed but just dropping them through letterboxes doesnt work unless you put out thousands at a time.

yellow pages isnt as successful as it once was, you may get some response but not enought to justify there costs.

As martin says the best thing is to go out smart and talk to people . i do one day a week and try to treat it as proper days work 8 hours systematicaly working through an area chatty, friendly leave lots of sales litrature. I am amased how tiring it is but it works very rarely do i come back with out securing some work and sowing a lot of seeds.

I dont think theres anything easy out there at the minute. so dont throw a  lot of money at passive advertising, use shoe leather instead.

cheers
