I priced a 4 bed detached house the other day. Was speaking to the owner and i was explaining how i clean and what methods i use wfp mostly but also trad were needed. She was very cautious as she has had SIX other windys wfp and trad and was never happy with the finish on the glass more so wfp. So i thought price well and give it a try. So i did, done the whole house and con wfp and she was over the moon with how well the frames and glass had come up. Said in all the years shes lived there her windows had never been so clean. What is happing here ? There are many out there that cant use the tools and giving wfp a bad name so its making it hard to get the custys to see the light of wfp. But when i manage to talk them round to it they are over the moon with the results. Thanks to alot of help on here i am getting on really well being wfp. Just a bit of a tougher game trying to get the customers to take my word on it as there are so many out there that dont do it proply.

some, might not spend enough time with wfp, or have a high tds, it is usually better to spend that little bit extra on the first cleans, as makes life a lot easier next time
-
Maybe some are not sure which way up to hold the wfp ;)

surely wfp cant be that hard to master.surely a ladder monkey like me could get the hang of it in a few weeks?? :P
scrub frames(esp tops)thoroughly/quick scrub on the glass
go back to the first window when water stops dripping off the frames/concentrate on the glass SCRUB/RINSE WELL
FINALLY a sweep of the sill with the brush and then NEXT WINDOW!AND SO ON AND SO ON!!
WATCH OUT FOR VENTS AND DONT CLEAN INSIDE THE VENT!(JUST THE TOP OF THE VENT!)
CAREFUL YOU DONT SPRAY THE SIDE WALLS WHEN RINSING THE GLASS.
HYDROPHOPIC/HYDROPHILIC GLASS.(RINSE BRUSH ON FOR BOTH)
WATCH FOR RUNS IN THE MIDDLE OF TOP OPENERS
CLEAN TOP FRAMES ESP THE TIME BEFORE CHANGEOVER WITH A DAMP CLOTH.
USE GG3/4 INSTEAD OF FAIRY 4/5 MONTHS BEFORE THE CHANGEOVER
TRAD OXIDIZED FRAMES/WINDOWS/CAREFUL ON OLD LEADED/FLAKEY WOODEN WINDOWS

Frames are the key to doing a good job! sadly there is a lot out there that dont do them! I do 95% of my frames and this gives a much better finish to the job!

Dazmond, by far the overwhelming challenge in using a wfp is not knowing what to do, and as I have just read, you do, and good on you for doing your research mate, but the actual physical effort and the completely new way of working, concerning cleaning glass with a brush squirting water on the end of a long pole at hight just takes some getting used to. You cant do it all day and be perfect, you cant do it for a month and be perfect either. You will realize when you have it sussed when you stop worrying if you'v done it right.
It is very easy to do, just as is Tiger woods hitting a straight drive 350 yards.
A little thought and loads of practice and then, well its a piece of cake. You do need the practice though and that is what makes the real difference in guys that do it well and guys that cock it up.

LAMMY THINKS ITS HARD WORK!!i cant wait to go wfp!i have big powerful arms and shoulders due to trad pole work at awkward angles with an unger pole!i think after the first couple of months wfp will be a breeze compared to the trad work i do now!the ladder work is what gets me towards the end of the week!! ;D ;D
sounds like you prefer trad lammy and thats ok if your happy with it!
im gonna fully embrace wfp and kick my ladder work into touch(mainly).prob start wfp tops/trad bottoms then after a week just use it on everything bar the odd bungalow/oxidized frames/up and over jobby, the odd flat roof etc.
i will take my time at first and ill expect to be slower than trad for the first couple of cleans until i re-learn my round with the new method and find the best way to be economical and efficient as well as doin a good job

I gave all my customers a letter when i swapped over it helped alot

i have got a wfp to go on custys outside tap for conny roofs/fascias/soffits etc.
i use a unger pole with the unger brush and pole hose on it.its quite heavy when your high up with it.
are proper wfps like brodex hydra pole much lighter?the brush weighs a ton too!!
i use extension poles everyday and very competent with them as well so my arms/shoulders are used to the strain!! :P

dazmond, yes impressed with your knowledge.
The majority of poor results though are poor kit and low flow.
-
got to say Daz, you have asked the right questions for months and you have obvioulsy made notes, keep it up mate, your switchover should be far easier than most, i learned so much on here about wfp and trad that its safe to say i would not be were i am without the help and advice ive gotten

Its not learning how to use wfp that is difficult or takes time. It learning that each house we do is different. And the skill comes in knowing just how much or how little needs to be done to get a good finish on each job.
We can all stand for hours throwing pure water at a job until eventually it comes good. Doing that quickly is the skill.

Thats about it Mark, also every customer is different. We've had the "Thats fantastic, never seen my windows looking so good" treatment before and then when you go back they don't want you to do them again.
If I were to run a five day course in window cleaning it would be one day on cleaning windows, one day on finance and accounting and the remaining three days on psycology.

if this customer has had that many windies do her windows , i think she will in time find fault with your finish as well , not the sort of customer you want at all regards alan

Some people JUST CANT GET IT!! its as simple as that, I had a lad worked for me and no matter how many times I showed him what to do the results were terilble.
He was a great lad, and good at most things, but put a pole in his hands and he turned into a blithering idiot!
I had to let him go in the end as I was getting up to 5 complaints in a week. his replacement has been with me over a year without 1.
the lad I let go now works for a circus. I swear!! (I laughed all day when he rang and told me) :D

its like everything else, speed comes with time and a first clean will take as long as it takes.
been going 3 years now and am still amazed at what some wfpers do .
