Does anyone offer a discount to oap's (over 65s) does it get much work and do you get the older folk to prove they above 65 so not to take advantage. Sounds like a dull question but i know some people who are in there 40s who could pass for 60+ :D-hard lives i guess.

Ask Joe ;)

Funny you should ask... Ive had 2 calls this 24 hours from oaps... Trying to pull wool over my eyes :D
I normally knock 10-20%off..... Neil47 will be using me from now on ;D ;D ;D
-
No, with pension credit, winter fuel allowance, cold weather payments, they are all new rich class, honest

nope no way too many oaps as custys

New rich >:( >:( >:( my a***e................. Having recently qualified for the state pension I can tell you it amounts to what most of you expect to earn in ONE HOUR, ie, £95, but that's per week !
Sure if the weather is below freezing for a certain number of days you might get a £25 payment. Big deal!

Robert, I am taking note of those who are not gonna give discounts to OAPS.
I hopefully no less then 4 years I will be hangin up my carpet cleaning boots - well, crocs actually -and joining you in the OAP club.
Taking a note of those who aint gonna give me a discount when I have no mamchine. ;)
-
I do a special credit offer; 100%down and nothing to pay over the next 12 months. Does that count ;D
-
I did give a oap discount regularly, but since one old boy haggled about a price and constantly moaned, then when paying me pulled out a wad of about a couple of k, and still moaned, I am MORE SELECTIVE.
-
Why would you want to give someone a price and then knock 10% off???
Tend to find OAP's don't like paying much to start with

my new leaflet has £10 off voucher valid for 6 months, young, old, rich poor, who cares as long as it encourages them to use me.
-
ps...
leaflet designed by moi and looking rather dandy even if i say so my self, and cheers paul ash for the inspiration.

I have run the oap monday club for 5 years if i didnt think it pays then i would not do it. 10% off
the only catch i tell the customer is they must make a good cup of tea.
Works work and if you think 2010 going to be a good year for you then your right not to bother :-\ :-\

Whilst I sympathise with the idea of a discount for OAPs, I usually take a reality check and charge my going rate. I may take a different view if they live in sheltered housing as I might get more work.
One thing to consider though, is many old people live in clutter cottage and are too frail to move the clutter before you arrive meaning you end up discounting a nightmare job - I did it ONCE!

Mike Halliday has frequently mentioned he advertises a discount for Pensioners and has apparently built a good niche business from doing so.
If you target a particular sector of any market you can reduce your overhead / increase your profits by saving on wasted ( non targeted ) advertising and as Mike states never have to travel more than 6 miles or so to your customers.
In marketing it's always psychologically good to " Make an Offer " to prospects.

as my name has been mentioned I''ll chip in with my two penneth.
I used to give a 10% discount to OAPs, I advertised it on my leaflet and I got a lot of response from it, I still get asked if I an OAP discount. even top class homes mentioned it even though they were obviously very wealthy.
I could have got all high & mighty and said "why give them a discount they have more money that most of us" but this attitude would not have put any money in my pocket ( and that the sole reason I'm in business) advertising the discount on my leaflets increased their response so made me more money.
I've never been in a OAPs house and seen a dirty carpet or suite, they are the cleanest section of our society, and OK they don't move anything but mostly they are dream customers
-
I nearly always give them a discount of some sort, more out of respect for our older generations.
Plus they always give you a cuppa and bickies, pay on time and usually with pound notes.

biccies cakes and last week, a large home made apple pie to take home. oaps are without doubt the best customers, and on a lot of occassions, the funniest. don't half av some stories to tell.

The senior custys seem to be more loyal too. Always like to use the same tradesmen.
One little old lady once said " Thanks for what you've done today...I'll have you back to do my dining room when I've saved a bit more money."
Made me feel quite sad at the time :'(
-
Mike- Do you have anyone who you can tell is not an OAP trying to get a discount? If so did you say no?
I prob try out a discount and see response.
Cheers all.

I've got to say I never called it an OAP discount but a retired person discount some people don't like being call 'old' so i did get people in there 50s asking for it.
but i still gave it to them after all the discount is probably the reason they called me
-
Allways give discount to OAP's or clean the fire side rug as a freebie
or small hallway. Word of mouth advertising down at bingo or day centre does a lot of good for the business
-
I agree with mike best to take say £90 than sit at home thinking of a £100 job also a lot of these oap so to speak have children in there 40s who wil respect the fact you have just looked after there parents by doing a good job so if they want there carpets or sofas cleaning the chances are they will use you.

Derek, have you had much luck with your leaflet ?
The £10 off idea sounds good. I'm after some leaflet designs...was wondering if you'd mind me having a peek at your leaflet ?
