Just about to embark on my new career as a window cleaner. ;D
Thought my area had hardly any but in last 2 days I have seen 1 very professinal looking outfit big van with WFP and 2 others ... oldish vans with ladders no signwriting.... unknowingly Ive been leafleting their cutomers (not yet followed up with a door knock)
maybe its the same as when you buy a car you start seeing lots of the same as what you just bought.
From North Wales / Chester Area.

Yes , more than usual.... lots of new ones about ;D ;D ;D
-
know what you mean,i never ever saw a window cleaner van or even heard of wfp before i started, now i see them everywhere!!!
-
Until this last 2 - 3 years we have had pretty much a free reign up here. Since the popularity of wfp's the competition is alot tougher.
Just got to raise our game though.

Taken 10 days holiday at end of month to bash on the doors ... target is 150 .. if I hit 100 I will jack my job in (gulp) ... just all these others got my bottle twitching a little ... however as a newbie myself I cant really complain :)
-
dont worry mate
there is thousands and thousands of houses in your easy reach, just keep going
Always be keen, reliable and smart and you will get plenty of customers and you will keep them.
A lot of people seem keen and then lose interest!

I know what you mean Ian, I am in the same situation as you!
I have had few set backs, such as now having to have a new clutch fitted to my motor next week, but once that is done, I am going for it.
I am just hoping my smarter first appearance look will have the edge over other windy`s in the area. I saw one the other day with a bent ladder on top of his motor, :o
Best of luck, ;D

i had a nasty stare from a fellow window cleaner in a ford orion with old wooden ladders on top,he was putting a bucket in his car.
he was wearing jeans with holes in and adidas 2 stripe trainers,i was wearing my uniform delivering leaflets,i smilled and said what a lovely day it is! ;D
he just grunted!

there are always lots of window cleaners everywhere all the time!esp if your lookin for them!!its very competitive out there!!im glad im not trying to build a round now!
just concentrate on your own business and the rest will surely follow if your determined to work hard at it and not get discouraged by a few doors slamming in yer face!!!
still work out there and crap windys who are asking for there work to be taken by a much more professional legit guy

yer, were like bums..... everyone's got 1. LOL ;D

Plenty of window cleaners = healthy competition. It stops you from becoming lazy and complacent ;)

best way 2 look at it ;)
-
When the sun comes out there every were every were you look i only seem to see most of them walking with a ladder or sitting up in a van i hardly ever see any actualy working.
-
it's cos the winter has gone, sunshine will bring them out. I am commercial so it dosent affect me cos you need insurance and have to do risk assessment and method statements,
too much office work for fair weather window cleaners.

when i moved in to the village i live in now, about a year ago, i asked the women next door if there was a wc she said no, i now know of 4 that just do my little estate of 40 houses
-
people think easy no outlay all cash
profit , then they find out lol
-
i see a fair few about. spose im a newbie anyway ,only been at it 2 years . i saw one earlier this week, driving along arm out the car window so i waved back-but he wasnt waving,he was holding his ladders down onto the roof(no clamps) !
also heard of another bod who cleans "as and when " ,but if theres no money left out, charges 50p extra as a collection charge
-
dont worry about a bit of competition, just raise the game and make sure your the best around.

It hasn't worked with me ;D

yeah there are more than ive ever seen before in my life!
my advice to anyone thinking of starting is dont!!! besides the job market is picking up now and working for somebody else is soo much easyer.
It is stressfull being self employed and takes a long long long time to build a full time round!
