Title: Split solution hose
Post by: Paul Simpson on March 16, 2010, 07:18:56 pm
On a job today and my solution hose split, spraying over the walls, carpet & bed. Had to run back to the machine (outside) to switch off the pump. After tidying my mess switched to my other one to finish the job.
Luckily it is only a couple of inches from the end so I'm thinking it should be repairable.

Where can I get this repaired?

I remember someone on here mentioning Pirtek before but don't have a branch anywhere near me.
Surely some other type of business must be able to chop off and refit the connector?
Any ideas please.

Do you have any hydraulic or pressure washer dealers nearby?

I had one split last week luckily i was in the entrance hall just finishing off. I dont think they are worth repairing and just bought a new one from John Kelly.

Pitty you dont have a Pirtek near you, i replace both ends on my last machine and its lasted more than 4 years! thats with loads of work, running at 200psi and heat!
I still have it as a back up.

If it mean't lopping a big length off I would agree but its a 50 footer and the split is only about2 inches from the end.

i know we don't want the expense of buying new but to be honest once they start to go they usually go again. i used to get them repaired all the time but now i've made up my mind to ditch them if they blow rather than have to buy new furnishings for an irate customer!!
can't remember who it was but someone posted last year about the time he had a black death that missed a £1,000,000 painting by a few inches!!  phew!!

I am trying to buy a new 50' piece every 18 months or so. The new piece is what I work in the house with, the old piece can be the run from the van. Never had a piece blow on me yet - dont want one either.

I went to Altec with a split hose last year and they refused to repair it, even make it good with a new valve etc.

Evidently they have to say it will tak X psi and wont burst, and obviously apart from a new one they cant.

You might find that the Ashbys, Altec of this world wont do it.

In the end I went to local hydraulic place and they did it with out a fuss.

Joes idea of a new pipe in the house is brill. When mine burst it was a 'black death' moment but all on her old hall carpet, luckily not the new carpet I was extracting a tea stain off. Phew!!!!!!!!!

Good idea Joe.

Why take the risk when you can buy 50 foot of hose for £ 100 ?

I phoned Pirtek last winter as they are 30 milesaway and they did not want to know about doing a repair.

So I bought new set,  Best move

Ashby's solution hose comes with a protective outer sleeve
so if it does split all you get is a drop in pressure to tell you
not water all over the place.
Think it's same price as normal stuff as well.

I have mine repaired cut back and crimped only charge my £6 each time, the hoses only tend to bend near to the ends so worth repairing i think

Thanks Len. Took it to the place you mentioned, they did it no problem for a tenner.
Used this afternoon and as good as new.
And thanks to everyone else for their replies.

Your right john and that hose is built for the extra steam heat on the ninja i think.Great mind you when it does go s it can make a real mess and cause damage..

i had a hose burst right near the connector to the wand when doing an old dears place recently, she was talking to me and polishing her baby grand piano and suddenly the whole thing went, all up the walls, over the newly polished piano and all over the newly cleaned cream carpets.

I've never seen someone so shocked in all my life  :o, she was speechless, i just ran out with the hose squirting scorching water down my trousers.  ( beleive me that was hot  :o )

The place was a mess, black gunge everywhere, fortunately nothing was badly damaged and i think the polish on the piano actually protected it.

She was really good about it tho, i thought she was going to go bonkers, but she just said "it's not your fault" and helped me clear up.

Had to clean the carpets all over again and she stayed well out of the way this time  :'(
