Title: Pressure washer pump question
Post by: Nathanael Jones on March 16, 2010, 01:54:41 pm
I've a 13hp cold honda washer that uses a Comet ZWD4040 pump currently mounted on a trailer with a tank.

I want to get rid of the trailer (too much hassle hooking it up, manoeuvring/parking etc) and put the pressure washer back on its original trolley. The only thing that worries me is if the Comet pump will be able to draw water from a barrel???? Does anyone know?

I've searched the internet, but it seems the pump is mostly used in america where they have enough water pressure in an outside tap to hook a garden hose to the machine without using a barrel!

Also,.. anyone know where in the UK or Ireland I could get a seal kit for this pump?

Think i have the exact same washer as you nat that i just brought, the guy i got it off used to use a large wheely bin with an outlet out the bottom with i think 1 1/4 transfer hose connecting to the washer with no problems..i hope so anyway as thats the way i want to use it..i can e-mail a picture of what i mean if you want and what fiitings are used as it is not set up to use normal garden hose pipe..plus i will be trying it out on a little job at the weekend where the bin and washer will be at the same level so the pump will have to suck the water in.

Thats a good idea Paul, thanks!
If it will suck from a barrel though it'd save me some work!

Cheers BDCS.

I finally got a reply from comet pumps. Gravity feed is ok, but sucking from a barrel will do damage. :(

Sucking the water will cause wear to any piston pump (cavitation) and a positive suction will always prolong pump life

A lot of guys selling Interpump based washers specifically put "Can suck from a standing source" as a selling point though?
