I blind quoted for a 2x2 seater for £130 and when I got there I quickly realised that the sofa had one of those removable machine washable coverings with advice label.... I brought this to the lady's attention!
She was over the moon and quickly decided that she'd have her carpet cleaned instead by way of compensation, which was very decent of her!
She said she was pleasantly surprised that with todays financial climate, someone running a business could still be so honest!
That very comment was worth losing the £130 job for a £60 job..... But then an "emergency job" came up nearby which I attended on completion, so I ended up only losing out on a few quid for the morning! Maybe there is a God :D

Done this loads of times, but then never hear from them again! Try to be honest like you - thinking that I will get repaid back.
But to be honest, they are a pain anyway to clean so would rather they get on with it, and hopefully be seen as a hero at the same time :)

Good on ya Colin.
Like to think I would have the same myself.

Honesty always pays long term. Got a job last week through another that I had been honest with.
I always say build your business on honesty and integrity and you won't go wrong.

Blimey Colin are those the sort of prices they charge down there in the West country .Should have gone to Devon years ago when I had the chance .Did you also tell the custie that they shrink in the washing machine and that they can be a bugger to get back on , mind you you did say it had instructions . Good to be honest though it does pay in the end .

you might have been honest but did you really do a her a favour? she now has to strip the suite inc' the cushions, not just wash them but also get them dry, then struggle to put them back on,and she wouldn't have used Ariel colour so the suite will now be bleached lighter
after all that she would have wished she'd payed you the £130 ;) ;)

I would have taken them off , taken them to a dry cleaners I have a deal with , paid the dry cleaner £30, then gone back refitted them , cleaned the lounge carpet and charged £130.
I have done that several times

I was under the impression that dry cleaning the covers that way would remove the fire retardency.
Could be wrong though.
-
I told a custy the same once and she still said to do it as it was a pain taking them off.

Good on you Colin.....It pays in the long run. That's one of the charms of living down here..honesty 8)

If you look at mikes post ,he told a custy their carpets didn,t need doing as they looked clean .
next day there was another cleaner at her house doing the clean .
Somtimes your better off just doing whats asked for or you may lose out

Right decision..........removable covers are a pain to clean as they're not " fixed " if you tell someone to remove them to clean remember to tell the customer NOT to machine dry, but put back on while slightly damp or they won't go on. I'm sure you've all come across suites with the inserts popping out stopping zips from working
Slightly damp will dry safely in reasonable air flow conditions but obviously not a good idea during wet weather
-
If you've given the options there is no arguments, "honesty is the best policy" which is also the biggest part of my work ethics, and personal recomendations should be the biggest part of your income!!!!! It means you are giving the service, all customers deserve everytime.

Thank you very much Robert for the advice, I told her to hang the covers out to dry but never thought of telling her to put them back on whilst still slightly damp.... Top Tip! ;)
