Title: Help with dilution ration
Post by: clairuk on March 11, 2010, 09:27:11 am
Morning all............

I just wondered if anyone can give me a pointer? I run a domestic cleaning business and have purchased a carpet cleaner for my customers to hire as well as a new bottle of shampoo.

The dilution instructions state:

Dilutute 20 - 50 parts water. I was reccommended to keep to 20.
How much of this shampoo should i put in a 5 litre water tank??

I have my own answer, but doubting myself if its right  ::)

Thanks in advance

1/20 = 238ml

Divide the tank size/spray bottle etc. by the ratio
ie 20 + 1 .

If it's 1:20              5000
                20 parts water + 1 part solution   =238

Ok.....Got it!

Thanks

So in theory if its 20-50 strenght i could go in the middle 35/1

5000
35 +1  = 139mls shampoo

Thats a few more uses out of the 5 litre tub :)

Dont worry Claire, they will ignore the ratios and just put a big glug into the tank, its what men do.

Do the job and then when it goes wrong they will look at the instructions to see why.

don't put any in the tank, mix in pre sprayer and spray the carpet then agitate with brush, then put fresh water in the tank and rinse the carpet getting all that soap out.

Claire

Mark is right if it is a 1 to 20 dilution ratio it is 250ml cleaning solution (ie 1 part) to 5 litres of water (ie 20 parts).

If you put 250ml of solution plus 5l of water as you say
then you have 5250ml or 250ml on the floor as it's a 5l tank.

Put 238ml and top the tank up, that is 20:1.

In a dilution of 1:20 there are 21 parts,ie 1part solution and
20 parts water.  1/21 of 5l is 238ml.
