Yes you can and its not going to kill the pump, but your pressure switch may wear out sooner than if you didn't use a tap.

Another option would be to buy a remote on/off from ebay for about £30. That way it would just stop the water when you pressed the button.

To answer your question on burning the pump out with closing the tap= no as the pump has a automatic cut out if the tap was closed.

hi scott,,i have the same back pack and i just fitted a on,off tap to the end,it,s been working fine for the last 3 years, the only thing is you have to get used to how much you turn the tap on each time ,,but it,s great for £5.(the tap i mean).good luck,,,,kev

The window cleaning warehouse backpack usually comes with a tap.
I have a microbore tap on my backpack I bought form them.

we ordered 5 backpacks they all came with hoselock connector with a tap on it but only 2 of them actually stop the flow of water when you turn them off, i have also found that because they are plastic they are starting to show signs of wear and they are only 4 weeks old, i get the impression they might not last too much longer

maybe you could try gardiners? - push fit flow valve - just cut your pole hose and push fit the control valve on either end.

or try purefreedom for tap that just straps on your pole.

Get a microbore tap and fitting

We use stop ends. When you disconnect the pole the water stops. Can be a problem if you are using a 1/2 inch hose as it tends to build up pressure. We use microbore. Also we have Variflows on our pumps to reduce the water that we use. It means you can turn down the flow of the water and adjust the pressure at which the pump stops.
