Title: Got my SLX at last!!!!!!
Post by: TC1 on March 10, 2010, 08:35:27 pm
Got my SLX after being on the waiting list for a few months. WOW what a great pole and IMO worth every penny. Thank you to everyone who told me to wait when I was getting impatient and looking at getting a different pole.
Can't wait to get out again in the morning!! ;D

I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. Due to the long wait to get mine I had built it up in my head how good it was going to be, so when I got it this morning I thought it might not be as good as I expected.............but it was better! :)

it really is lite as anything I have to say. money speant well, just a few tweeks needed IMO after using it for a while, IONICS could well clear up if they not what is being done infront of them, till then Alex G is king of useable pole. all we need now is a lite pole that lasts, for that I would pay top money

Got my 18ft slx today, been waiting since Nov, its a shame its for the Mrs and not me lol
I did have a lil play with it earlier on me own windows, it felt pretty good and nice and rigid
Pole hose could do with a few more feet added but i like the yellow as its more high visable for safety reasons

You can change the hose easily enough for less than a tenner.

Superb pole, the best I've ever used. Had mine since it first came out a couple of years back (MKI-25ft).

It's been used daily since then & still plenty left in it yet. I put the newer clamps on it a couple of weeks back, new clear hose & a new butt cap (approx £20 in all). It's like new again & the new clamps (which are what you've got) are excellent & well worth the upgrade.

When the ground is wet just wipe the hose after every job as you put it back in van. ;)

I have had the SLX35 (Mk2 SLX30 with 5ft G/F extension and upgraded clamps.) for a year now and it has transformed my work rate. I am using the top 4 sections (about 20ft) for everything domestic and add the bigger two as and when I need them for flats and higher commercial.

It's beginning to show signs of wear now and I am putting it back together and am going to use it for my higher work only as I have ordered an SLX 22 which will do all my domestic including most 3 floor and 2 floor light commercial.

Lead time 4 weeks and I'm holding my breath.

I don't know everybody's experience & knowlage on here, so to state the obvious without intended offence-

Carbon poles will show signs of wear in no time, surface wear almost immediatley, BUT don't confuse normal, expected surface wear or this common phrase "showing signs of wear" with the pole actually wearing out beyond it's normal service life. Poles do look lovely when new but that is very short lived I'm afraid. I've had numerous carbon poles inc' facelift & gardiners & they all lose their gloss & give you black hands soon enough. They are a work tool afterall. Infact, when I first got my slx it was a bit stiff to extend so I took some fine sand paper to it, just where it was sticking a little & as stated earlier, that pole is still in daily service.

I still wear pockets even when wfp'ing for my phone, keys etc. I just keep a sill cloth in one to wipe the hose when needed.

The slx, for me was one of, if not the best investment I've made. That pole transformed my working day to- easier, faster, more productive & more enjoyable. Top piece of kit, I don't even carry a short pole now, the slx does evrything from ground to knocking on 30ft. ;)

I have an 18' and 35' slx poles. The 18' is my favourite as its the one I use 90% of the time. They are the best poles I have ever used.

Because they have a very tight tolerence between clamp and pole its vital you keep sand and grit getting on the pole hose.I had issues with my 18' pole originaly. I filed down the inside of the plastic clamps that were standing slightly proud of the pole profile which improved useing the pole dramaticly.

As the outer resin on the pole wore down the pole just got better and better to use. Then the black carbon dust started and black hands were the order of the day.

But about 3 months ago I tried spraying wd40 on the pole, this improved the use of the pole and reduced the carbon dust but the wd40 does not last long( hours).I then tried some ceramic oil I have for my push bike and its superb on the pole lasting up to 3 days. The ceramic oil bonds to the surface of the pole so It stops carbon dust. It makes the pole glide in use. When lowering the sections in use I open the clamp give my wrist a slight flick and the pole section just slides down, superb, effortless topull the sections out. The best bit when I oil the pole is that it looks brand new, shiny and slick. I wont use the pole without the oil.it willmasively increase the lifespan of the pole asthe oil takes the wear.
