Now i don't know what to make of this guy, bear with me. I am about to start canvassing for customers for my very own round and the other day i was practising on my own property when a guy walked up quite close.
"We don't need any more window cleaners around here, hoppit"
I wondered what to make of this and explained i was just starting out, finding my feet before canvassing for my own round.
"We don't need any more guys like you, clear off" He continued. He then pointed at my car with the roof racks and carried on "Your car is now known to me and it can be 'done' at any time" !!! And with that he was off.
What was all that about ? It was my own house and i haven't even got any customers yet !!! But it won't deter me- not at all.

i train and teach gracie jiu jitsu by the way it is the ultimate in self defense look it up on the net and get learning it!

Well i did feel like imposing my 5ft6 frame and scaring him but i'll leave that for another day !!! Actually attempting to report someone like this is a waste of time in my opinion- nobody else was around at the time.

Report him, he will change his mind when the police knock on his door. If you suffer malicious damage to your car in the future you will already have a police report to chase up.

I once had a lot of trouble from dole cheat window cleaners. Undercutting me by half and claiming I had packed it in and sold my round to them, etc. I started carrying a camera in the van, and if I saw them working I would take a picture, making sure they saw me.
They would ask me what I was doing, but I didn't get involved in arguments, just walked away. They got the message, moved on and I didn't get anymore trouble.
If you get any more people threatening you, or even the same one again, make sure you have a camera with you. That way you can show the police a photograph of the person using threatening words and behaviour towards you. It's an offence, even if they don't attack you and they can be prosecuted and could even get a prison sentence if the threats are bad enough.
These people are usually cowards, very brave when they think no-one knows who they are, but will not be so brave if they think you can identify them.
Don't play their game - if you threaten them back you could be prosecuted yourself, especially if there are more than one of them to witness your threats.

The next windy cleaner that trys that on me had better back it up I have a theory 1 day 1 will try his luck and I am going to let him.then am going to phone the police and have him charged and then am going to a solicitor and have a injunction took out on him to keep away from me and the round he is trying to get me off

see bully's thrive on getting a reaction, all you are doing is fuel in them for more, they rely on intimidation as there main point of attack, bully's ain't the quickest of the block but not dumb either,

i'll tell you now anybody threatens me and i uphold the gracie challenge! which by the way has been going for around 100 yrs in brazil.
basically i challenge them on the spot to a one on one fight no holds barred

im loving this camera thing, i would never never get into a fight or even an argument outside or near a custmoers house, if someone tried to do this then i would just ignore them and carry no my merry way. Got a feeling a may have a bit of this soon as people have been calling me now from recomendations as they hate there window cleaners. agh well its all good fun and ill just take each day as it comes

Anything from get off my patch, to 2 blokes breaking my legs. None came to fruition, but they dont like it when you laugh in their face. ;)
The only time i ever broke me leg was when i fell off me ladder in 1986. ;D

I am on the verge of starting up too, & I would think that is the last thing that I would want to be hearing when I am trying to to get my confidence up!
I reckon you are going to do really well for yourself! You sound like you are putting a lot of thought & effort into this, & you are going to give the custys a great service. ;)

@ hitman. muay thai is the spelling i do muay thai boxing every sunday night too. but striking with a bigger person is never a good idea!
@ s.w.c the odds of coming up against sombady who knows gracie jiu jitsu is about thesame as winning the lottery mate! dont be fooled by sportive fighing its not real! a heavy weight boxer would not stand a chance against a gracie/brazillion jiu jitsu person! youtube it! dont just take my word for it!

i understand disciplines very well , i use to work the door for some years and we all had different ones under our belt, one clever sod even took bits from six different one and put it into training doorman in close contact, even trained women at it too.

surely by constantly going on about being a martial arts expert then your trying to intimidate others? i would prefer to just smile and carry no my work than start rolling round on the floor ahving a bit of a tussle, the bigger man always smiles and walks away in my opinion, the only time i would 'fight' back is if im backed into a corner.
When i was younger i trained for years in a martial art, i found that i never had to mention this to anyone and it actually taught me a lot of self control. There was never any need to tell other kids or people i did it, the way i conduct myself usually kept me out of trouble and till this day ive never had to use what i was taught, after all i learnt it for one reason, self control and to be able to protect myself. if i was to ever attack someone when i was licencesed then i would lose my licence

as i said early martial arts are good for your health and state of mind.
thats just billy-smart circus fight, not a travellers real fight they have two types a fare go and a dirty go, a fare go is stand up knock them out with some rules like your link a dirty go is bad news

I've been threatened by other WC's a few times now. I find it really amusing because you don't find this with other trades, plasterers, plumbers, sparks etc so why WC. I've been window cleaning for a few years now and I've been toying with the idea of investing in a Wfp system. But sometimes hearing these stories I think what's the bloody point.
GB what Gracie club do you train at? Who's your instructor?
I have to laugh at what you were saying. I can just imagine some bloke giving you jip. So jump at him pull guard and triangle choke him out LOL

I have done boxing/jeet kun do & wrestling........ Where are these clubs i would join one if there are any near me

Hello Ringo,
I have had it quite a lot from these threatening, so called window cleaners.
The best thing you can do is to just report them to the police.
Also, the advice about taking a camera with you to either take pictures or film them is a great idea. In fact I think I will be doing the same, wish I'd thought of that myself before.
If you need someone to speak to who has experienced threats of violence, I would be interested to here from you.

Is this a wind up ?? only it sounds a little too scripted .... sorry Ringo but not falling for it .... however if true then I will apologise now .... btw the only people u need to worry about are the ones who tw#t you first then when you wake up tell you why they hit you ... the ones who mouth off and threaten are spineless toss##rs who very rarely back it up ... personally I would have followed him then called the police which if they refuse to come tell then them its all about to kick off in a violent kinda way as you are going to defend yourself with reasonable force ... they will soon be there especially if you tell them you think you seen him with a weapon of some sort..... hope this helps ... if it happened

Yes I wondered too if it was for real. I've been W/Cing for a very long time and never had such a problem. Mind you I am of erm larger build so some might find that offputting. I'm no fighter though. I'm just not interested. I would only hit out as a last resort if there was no other way to protect myself. Much rather let the old bill deal with it myself though really, I would like to just ignore it.

I have never had a problem with any of my fellow WCs. In fact we all get on and a couple tend to pass work on to me as they do not want any new work.

is Koodokan which is a mix of wing Chun and Shotokan so stances of strength mixed with Bruce Lee speed which is great, and your correct size is not an issue,
I used to teach children and adults,the big guys hate it when a smaller guy just get in and out,and he has just been smacked LOL ;D it started me doing this
becuase I started to get bulled,I went into boxing then Karate my son is also
a Black Belt ;D my advice go see for yourself all arts are good see what you like try some,if you get bully sensi leave its not the way ;)

These threads always make me laugh, i was actually a close combat instructer for the special forces and taught a technique called the killer eye. Give em the killer eye and i promise you wont get anymore trouble from anyone.
Oh and i am the toughest hombre on this forum, dont mess with me.

Personally, I prefer to pick up the the largest rock or brick and smash them right between the eyeballs, lean over there crumpled up body as it lies there seaping on the ground, and recite a quote from one of my favorite films,

When i very first started...many moons ago now....i was well aware of some wc's in the area that were SUPPOSED to control the patches ;D.
I was told by another guy that they would give me trouble,so i basically went up to them and told them i was starting a business cleaning cleaning gutters/fascias etc and obviously i would get some windows but if i couldn't handle them would they mind if i referred the homeowner to them instead.
They welcomed me with open arms...idiots...they thought i was going to give them work,and believe it or not i ended up with them contacting me about cleaning some gutters on two of their customers (oh how i would have loved to have nicked them as well)....
I must say that all the above bravado does nothing to enhance the wc's already thugish reputation...think outside of the box and overcome the situation from a differant angle other than violent retaliation....you never know you might just feel better about yourself for doing it.
