Title: high damp readings in walls

Hi all I live in the Wolverhampton area and own a house in Fife Scotland , In January had a burst pipe at the top of the house 3rd floor which has now resulted in a high level of damp in one room on the second floor which i need to get rid of. Would a dehumidifier do the job all the rest of the house has been checked okay and if so anyone have one for sale or know the name of a hire company that don't charge the earth. what kind would i need or any sugestions

hi there

how high is the reading? is this an internal wall or external?
what is th structure of the wall, drylined or wet plaster?
who has checked the rest of the building?
where is the wallin relation to where the leak was ?

Hi Martin the walls are of a timber stud and plaster finish the readings were taken by a property surveyor so not aware comments are a high reading of dampness to the lounge. The leak ran behind and over the offending wall resulting in the ceiling cracking and water pouring down the outsideof the wall.
The ceilings have now been replaced and the propertry re-decorated, my opinion is that due to the climate up their the property has not had a chance to dryout yet any thoughts would be welcome. ::malky

was the property dried out and signed off prior to the redec?

if so then the recourse is back to them.

the question really is how far you want to go with it

Had the lawyer on the phone today and the buyer will except the house as is for a quick sale, as not rising damp and presumes it will dry out if house is occupied, "bonus" ;D I will hire an industrial dehumidifier and place in the room for a week at any rate.
Legal path to complicated, long and drawn out not to mention the expense.
