Title: small extraction machine
Post by: derek west on March 07, 2010, 01:26:45 pm
i'm after a small spotting machine and have no idea what i'm looking for other than......

when i did the advanced NCCA spot and stain removal course, paul peerce had a little machine he used in his demo's which i feel was the perfect size and power, but i can't remember for the life of me what it was called. so if anyone knows what machine paul uses could you let me know.

i basically want it to flush out anything that i'd use on a stain so i don't have to get the trucky out but i also need it to be small as i'm running out of room in the van.

cheers in advance.

Both Ashbys and Prochem used to do small portable spotting machines.
I've got the Ashbys one and it certainly comes in handy, reasonable vac & pump for stain removal work, also has heater built in.
Must admit, it wasn't cheap and I've no idea what they cost these days, i've had mine over 6 years now.
I'm sure the info would be on their website www.ashbys-uk.com

I use the sphere,,, it was not cheap, around £1500 plus vat , I only use it for stairs and upholstery, it has decent heat, lightweight and never ever  breaks, my current one is 2.5 years old, and I will get another later in the year.

Derek get yourself a numatic ctd572 2x 1200w motors about 60psi on the pump 10 litre solution tank there bullet proof hade mine for years, parts are widley available when things go wrong and unlike some others they dont fall apart when chucked in back of van for every day trade use. i have cleaned mobile homes with my one when the portie kept tripping the electrics.

second hand flee bay £100 quid. sorted ;D

Derek,
I use a Prochem Bravo for flushing out stains.  It's great little machine and I picked up mine secondhand off ebay.  Think I paid around £300.
Cheers,
Pete

Derek if you go the numatic route make sure you get the 572 or 902 as the 2 on the end means 2x 1200w motors the 570 0r 900 are single 1200w motor so havent got the suck.

all the spec will be on numatics website.

Right going out its the wifes birthday going to take her for a meal getting funny looks.

That's covered - it's got the word Professional on it.  ;D
If it bothers you that much and it suits your need especially when "like i said its only for flushing out the odd stain or 2", just stick a sticker over the name.  ;)

I have a Numatic ctd900 like Paul for spots, you can have mean for £100. Want to be honest with you tho, its load as f****k! all Numatics are.

I dont bother with "spots only" now (hence why i want to sell it), its the whole room or nothing.

i have a minimum call out whether its a stain or a whole room, with a spotter a stain will take 15 mins, a whole room with the trucky about 30 mins, same charge. so on that bombshell,

plus if you do the stain, they'll notice the rest of the carpet is dirty and have you back to do the whole room. "double money"

always thinking ;D

Personaly, i wouldn't leave the clients house with a big or small clean patch that stands out like a sore thumb..
Obviously not double the money but a customer for life and cheerleader at that for saving them money and being honest etc. Even better thinking wouldn't you say? :)

Anyways, thats how i roll. Each to thier own :)

Tony

I follow your logic and in some circumstances I would agree with you. However....

What would you do if the carpet was brand new and somebody spilt a glass of red wine over it? Would you really only clean the WHOLE room? Also, whilst I agree that it's pointless removing a stain and having a clean mark and therefore the whole room needs to be cleaned the opposite it also true.

What if you convince the client that the whole room needs cleaning but then you can't get the stain out which was the whole reason that the client called you in the first place? I'm assuming you would at least clean the stain first and then assuming it came out you would then clean the rest of the room. You wouldn't, surely, clean the whole room and then apologise for the fact the stain was still in the carpet.

Roger

Sorry I should have made myself clear. In the very few jobs I get where the carpet is brand new and something has been spilt then i will treat just the stain and the min charge kicks in.
But as i say, i get these once in a blue moon (where the carpet in question is a few months old) and when i do get them from now on, i'll use the porty with hand tool.

And depending how i feel and how busy i am, i wont charge if i cant remove the stain if its a stain only job.

p.s. I always treat the stain first before cleaning the carpet.
