Title: DI water
Post by: simon knight on March 06, 2010, 02:03:52 pm: I'm trad but use DI water when doing insides (no soap so just down blading wiping the blade every stroke).

I buy a 5ltr canister from Halfords(it's really battery top-up water but I guess it amounts to the same thing)!

Thing is that since I've started using pure water I've found that my hands are like sand paper and very very dry.

It never happens with tap water and a splosh of Fairy...why is this?

using just tap water and fairy.

think its just the cold conditions we have had.

as for cracked bleeding hands ive never had this problem in 16 years of trad window cleaning!i hardly ever wear gloves either and if i do its only for the first hour if its really cold!!

i only ever use green fairy.

Post by: Sunshine/Cleaning on March 06, 2010, 04:17:18 pm: To answer your question it is because pure water is very agressive therefore it will strip you hands of any of its natural oils. My advice would be to use Neutrogena to stop them spliting.

I use pure lanolin. It's waxy and a bit unpleasant to put on, but it protects against everything the weather can throw at me. It's 100% natural (extracted from sheeps wool).

Ask your pharmacist.

The reason for using DI inside is that with the smaller windows I tend to rag and think that there's less chance of smearing with pure water than tap water and the green stuff.

Defo going to get some neutrogena or that lanolin stuff today. The tips of my fingers have split...bloody sore :(
