Title: Keep up the good work
Post by: Ste M on February 27, 2010, 09:53:04 pm
Had a call today from one of my flyers that had been handed on from a customer, anyway i went up to the house in a very nice area near to where i live, the lady was over the moon with me from the outset and i had the job before i even gave her the price, the reason for this is the window cleaner in the area is in her words 'one of the rudest, scariest, smelliest and downright awful at his job, man she has ever met'.

Anyway i qouted the house and got it, so i thought id knock at a few of the neighbour and low and behold it was like i was knocking to tell them they'd won the lottery. Each one told me that they hated the current cleaner and when could i start!!! I picked up some nice work from the estate and i think once i start cleaning ill only pick up more.

Each house that i got an answer at told me how sick to the back teeeth they were with the current cleaner but didnt know how to get hold of a new one in the area. One particular customer has told me that he will personally tell all the neighbours to drop the current one and take me on.

The mans wife came out and she was telling me that the cleaner turns up, knocks at her door and just hands over his bucket whilst 'grunting', he has a ciggie hanging out of his mouth and misses half the windows and charges them way over the top for it. (i never found out how much he charged, i dont ask that , she just said he was VERY expensive) He also has two lads with him who dont care either and miss half the windows.

Anyway it turns out the date i start to clean is also the date he is due ;D, got a feeling there may be some fun ;D all of the custmoers i got said they cant wait to tell him where to go now as he is that bad,

I would like to shake his hand and ask him to keep up the good work, after all i think ill be getting a lot more of his customers. Dog eat dog world and if you dont do your job well then you deserve to lose the custom if you ask me. People have canvassed my customers a good few times and ive NEVER lost on of them EVER ;D

regards

lammy trust me mate, i will have so much of his work i wont be able to keep up, its his own fault as well from what they were saying.

If someone was to threaten me i think i would have to start laughing at them, it always throws them off gaurd then, if they however try to get a bit nasty then first thing id do is move away from any customers houses as its not good, i think id be the only one walking back round though haha, that is unless he's huge and then id run like mad whislt shouting 'come on lad, ill have ya'.

Even the custmoers say he is probably signing on so icant see him wanting to make a fuss in front of them all, after all im fully legit and the tax man loves me ;D

totally gree ste m

It really is unbieveable the amount of work you can pick up if you carry on doing a good job,

newbies seem to think if there is a cleaner in a certain area then they have less chance of picking up  customers Wrong!

As you have said yourself and what i have found, it just could be there chance to get rid of their current cleaner.

got to go back this week as well as someone has had a house built and there moving in this week, its bloody huge and its got so much glass it looks like a pilkington factory ;D.

It was funny today as the fella who wants to do my canvassing for me in the close also offered me more money than i qouted, it wasnt much but i told him that i had qouted him a price and thats what i stick to. he was very very suprised by this and i actually dont think he believed me, i just told him i have an hourly rate that i try to achieve and im not in this job to rip people off, it is true, but i just dont think he expected it and he will only go on to tell more people about how good and honest i am.

I'm not sure i'm comfortable with this thread.

Other guys please feel very free to correct me, but when my custies slag the old or existing cleaner off that generally means problems for me further down the road.

Customers that promise to tell all the neighbours to drop this guy and have you are often idiots.

I have gotten work and i have lost work. The most common reason is they just don't like the guy, or in some cases don't like me.

I find it very hard to believe they would have stayed with someone they disliked so much.My finding is that they would prefer no cleaner to a bad one.

i know of a area that some1 i know cleans, the "leader" ( they know me as i clean the next road over ) of the area has approached me a few times to do the area, they all do not like his attitude, they all hate the way he cleans in the hammering down rain, they say he does a poor job

YET, none will dump him till they have some1 else then know, the area had been canvass'ed 4 times since the end of last summer, they have had various different flyers put through the door aswell, yes they will not ditch him as they know he is trustworthy and will not steal of them

now this is about 20 houses, now some will say " oh its just the leader spouting off" its not, as a fair few of my older customers allways ask me to pop down and speak to mrs so-and-so

i havent taken them on, i am stacked out and i just dont think it is the right thing to do, though he has taken 2 houses of me in the past

Lets not get carried away.

This thread started with a refered flier, he quoted a job and got it and then the neighbours. He hasn't actually cleaned any of their houses yet.

I remember dave saying that after he bought some work they all had a story about how bad the previous cleaner was but he had fliered it many times without success. So to that degree you may have a point.

Your customers probably slag you off too matt- to a degree. It's human nature.

slump i kind of know what you mean, the estate is a nice one though mate and they like there windows to be cleaned, this fella is just taking the biscuit though in his attitude and the way he cleans the windows (or more to the point in the way they have said, he doesnt clean them).

Ive had similar before were people will just have any cleaner as long as he cleans them, this fella however is crap and no-one by the sounds of things has ever been on his 'patch' before, up until now that is ;D

I can usually tell a bad customer but none of these gave me that feeling, i just feel there after a good haonest cleaner who they can trust to do the job well
