Title: Who's going to Carpex
Post by: Simon Gerrard on February 26, 2010, 08:11:27 am
I've just been on the Carpex website and I think that we should all get behind an event like this that is specific to our industry. In particular it should be of interest to the newbies as there will be a vast array of equipment and accessories on show, plus people who can give you demos and talk you through there use AND loads of fellow carpet cleaners in attendance to swap ideas and experiences with. There are also quite a few Seminars you can attend. If I were a newbie I'd be falling over myself to get there of 18th / 19th March. Oh, and it's FREE!

No its not really like CCDO.
Its an exhibition, with display stands.
A few demonstrations going on.
Some seminars in conjunction with NCCA.
Roger Peach doing one.
Its at Coventry football stadium.
Only couple miles off the M6

PLUS ITS FREE....not getting charged £35 makes it more attractive to attend  :). I understand that this time the profits from the CCDO are going to Johns family so on that basis i feel the £35 would bw worth paying

If anyone struggling getting to grips with rotary work, dry fusion usually have a large floor area for demos, as do Envirodri.
Usually pick up show bargains on vac cleaners, LTT and Furniture Clinic leather cleaning stuff etc.
and of course Vax will probably there with their professional range.  :)

I've been to previous ones and in all honesty you see all you need to see in 2 to 3 hours. If you're in the market to be buying something in the near future then it is worth going to.
Personally I'll go with the CCDO day out which will be more orientated to the actual methods of doing the job etc by carpet cleaners for carpet cleaners.

I am going to Carpex, and not CCDO, nothing to do with price, as £35 is next to nowt !
I prefer CCDO, but the missus has banned me as first child is due, so this year it has to be Carpex.
Both events are a bit different, i prefer CCDO because it is for carpet cleaners, Carpex is 75% window cleaning and about 25% carpet cleaning, going by the companies attending.

Yes Carpex is free, however somebody pays along the line, wether it be from sponsers or suppliers, stands at these events cost thousands, and they have to recoup their costs, and as it is us who buy their products, we are in effect paying for it !

We should attend all events as we can learn so much from others, and 1 small conversation could be just what you where wanting to hear, as well as the social side of the events, like ccdo meet night before, going out for a meal, having too much drink, and
celebrating Billy's birthday   ;D ;D ;D ;)

HI Guys

I won't be going as I just have too much to do for the CLEAN launch and also the stain removal I am doing at the CCDO.

I did attend Carpex when it was in London and found the first show good but the second was so similar it was the law of diminishing returns.

From the list of Exhibitors I notice Hydramaster are not going, nor Texatherm and it does seem dominated by window cleaning, which is just a bigger industry I suppose.

Cheers

Hi Guys

I am finding cleaning carpets, running the website business, Secretary of a City Cleaning Lodge and  sorting out the CLEAN business  leave me with very little time.

I even wrote some course stuff while  on holiday.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people to chat to at Carpex and the best bit is always the drink after.
Cheers

I would have thought that both CLEAN and Hydramaster would have a stall at Carpex, seems odd neither are attending what is a showcase for our industry.

Hi Guys

I also heard that Alltec might not be going although according to the list they are.

It's too early for CLEAN but maybe next year, it all depends on what the directors decide.

It's a shame about Hydramaster, they were always one of the best stands to visit and they came out drinking afterwards.

Cheers

Doug,
I would have thought that having even a small stall at Carpex would be absolutely essential for a new organisation like Clean, it is after all a showcase for the whole industry with thousands of people attending who do not populate the forums and have never heard of Clean and could have had the opportunity of joining.
And you also have a responsibility to those that do join you in this first formative year to ensure that you get as many people on board as quickly as possible and help ensure your survival as a viable association.
It strikes me that you're trying to open a super market with no stock and no advertising and yet still expect to succeed.

As Carpex is sponsored by the NCCA, I don't think it would be right and proper for us to ask for a stand. We will be there in person on both days, to talk to manufacturers and any cleaners that wish to stop for a chat.

"As Carpex is sponsored by the NCCA"
How does that work. I wouldn't have thought the NCCA had funds to contribute to events like this.
How does that benefit members?
What am I missing?
Title: Re: Who's going to Carpex
Post by: Simon Gerrard on February 27, 2010, 05:33:00 pm
Steve,
Carpex is only sponsored by the NCCA and I very much doubt that the organisers would turn down good money to let you have stand, but did you enquire and were turned down because you're a potential competitor to the NCCA?
I think you've missed a trick here!

Well we would'nt want to be seen wasting members money either and that's not a swipe at the NCCA (before anyone tries the inevitable twist on words).

We are not here to promote ourselves to ourselves, we are going beyond this as has always been made clear for those that have read and understood our policy.

I will be going on Friday to meet and greet fellow, positive supporters of the industry. Reckon I'll be standing next to the short guy in shorts  ;D

Pete,
Well why do you think all of the exhibitors at Carpex are spending good money to be there in front of the Carpet Cleaning industry, which believe it or not, is made up largely of carpet cleaners, the very same people you need in quite large numbers to breath life into your fledgling organisation, but you don't think it an imperative to have a stand?
You have a responsibility to every single person that joins you to make sure they are not throwing their money down the drain and down the drain it will surely go if you do not build a membership very quickly in order to raise the funds to deliver on at least some of your promises. Exhibiting at Carpex could have announced your arrival in the industry, but none of you think that important?

No we didn't enquire about a stand, it's simply professional courtesy not to step on anyone's toes. As I pointed out, the NCCA sponsor the show and will also be holding seminars there.

We have a good working relationship with the Directors of the NCCA and we would like to maintain that, we are not in competition with them.

Plus we have the CCDO coming up where we can launch to a large number of interested parties, albeit not as large as Carpex.

Hope that answers your query.

Steve

Steve,

You've just said you're not in competition with the NCCA, so what's the problem with being at Carpex? The hall will be crammed with companies competing with each other, surely that is the very nature of an exhibition, to showcase similar products and services in one place so that the buyer can see what's on offer under one roof.
Also, the CCDO is nothing on the scale of Carpex and will only be attended by the populations of the carpet cleaning forums and perhaps some others. You seem to have a mental block on the notion of advertising, you won't advertise CLEAN at the industry showcase, Carpex and seem to think the alternative, the CCDO will advertise it's self. It's as if you think the laws of business don't apply to CLEAN and that without spending a penny will simply come to the awareness of the carpet cleaning community by what, telepathy?

Just had a look at exhibitors list on page 28 of Cleaning and Hygiene Today, there are about
13 carpet cleaning stands, which include sebo, lyndhaus, NCCA etc, and over 20 window cleaning stands, plus a few janitorial suppliers, and insurance services stands.
Looking at layout map, the hall is only a third full .
However i will still be going even though the hall isnt crammed.

When will you publish info for those of us unable to get there.

Hi Karen

We will be there for anyone who wants to speak to us.

Doug can;'t make it I know but he has alot on in the next few weeks and I'm sure Dave L can fill his shoes on the technical front. As for policy, direction and the rest of it then myself, Andrew, Steve B, Dave L will be there and possibly more.

As for the universe of CCing, about 90% of what we will/are doing will be outside this so if we were to be exhibiting anywhere it certainly would'nt be at carpex it would be more along the lines of an FM show or interior designers exhibition. Make of that what you will but if you look at our aims I'm sure our reasoning will make sense.

Can you say thanks to Glyn from me for offering to help with the problems we had on the ccdo forum. It seems to be sorted now thanks to Kev's extensive efforts but Ithink it says alot that Glyn was kind enough to pitch in.

have you thought that through pete, iterior designers exibition. they'd laugh you out of the complex, there more about materials that can't be cleaned than what can.
that way they get to do it all again in 2 years time. interior designers don't want to save there customers money, they want them to spend it.

hopefully see ya on the carpex thursday, maybe you can explain what i'm not getting. big bald and whiskey nose, i'll be the one haggling on one of the stalls. ;D

The first part of it is what the mayor of New York said after 9/11
The second part I added as a tribute to my oversized white GSD who just loved digging up beaches.

Ha ha Omid,

yes thought through and proven to be successful. Yes I have to be a secret squirrel about this one but for more info get in touch with Dave L. Important to point out that I'm not saying that that is what we are going to do just that it would be preferable (to insular promotion) given our main aims.
