Hi All,
Some people say a picture paints a thousand words. Whats you opinion on having a picture on your leaflet. And what should it be of, a clean carpet, me and my van etc.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

John,
I have become a believer in personalising advertising as long as its not too tacky.
Lots of customers who find me from the internet say they chose me because I was bold enough to put my picture.
I have never tried on leaflets , probably because the leaflet quality I use would not benefit a picture.
Cheers,
Doug

Thanks Doug,
Im preparing a Full Colour leaflet with my logo and using different colour texts. I want to brighten it up compared to some of the others I have seen come in my door from other services. Im just thinking I may have too much Text, and since Im going to do them full colour a picture might be better.
Thanks again.

pictures are only usefull if they back up a major benefit, so putting a picture of your van is pointless.
if you sell your services as being kind to children & animals then a picture of a small child playing on the carpet would back up this statement.
but all photos must have a explanation. I use a photo of me cleaning a local hotel, its says at the bottom 'henry cleaning the bush hotel' this backs up my statement within my leaflet that I am trusted by local companies.
when you put a photo on your leaflet look at it and ask yourself 'what does this photo tell the customer' if it tells them nothing, get rid of it.

Thanks again Mike,
you were kind enough to send me over some samples of your leaflets last year wehn I started and I copied your format with some success. Good point though If I do put a picture in I will make sure it tells the customer something.

Mike on the money again.
How do you get to be such a clear thinker.

The self picture on a letter, leaflet etc is commonly used in marketing.
Victor Kiam? the man who liked the razzor so much and bought the comoany was one of the first.
Richard Branson has personalised Virgin, because people like him and his style they want to buy his products.
A lot of MPS do it on their letter heads.
The idea of putting your well possed photo on a leaflet and your partner if you have one, is to show that you are the kind of person they will let into their home.
In my opibion the photograph should be of potrait quality, makeover if required, in my case yes. Personally not sure about Doug in his garden.
A while ago we were talking about the irish Franchise Carpet Doctor if you look for their web site, you will see an example of what I am talking about.

John,
Hi, I am from PCMS a design and print company.
We do some flyers and leaflet for people who have used pictures, normally very tastefull images - nothing tacky.
Images are normally based on the company name or something relevant to the business, or even a back wash of a non descript (abstract) image which just adds a splashm of colour to make you stand out from the crowd - adding professional quality.
If you want to get some idea on prices for design and print just give me a call.

Thanks again,
I have decided to leave the flyer without a picture this time. If I knew how to upload the word file with my new Flyer I would let you all see it and get your opinions. If you can explain how to do this let me know and I will post it.
Cheers

i have a picture of me van on my leaflet with the door open showing my truckmount, the top heading on my leaflet says TRUCK MOUNTED CARPET CLEANING,( 20 times more power full than electric machines ) ;D
i think a picture of a tidy sign written van showing some smart kit is essential, it gives any potential customer a little bit more confidence in your company ;)

Thanks Conrad,
Good Point. Im going to go without the picture for this run and see what happens. I have been very lucky over the past few months with the amount of Commercial work I have been doing. So this will be my venture back into leaflet delivery, 20,000 full colour, starting delivery next week with a group of friends recruited to do the work.
Looking forward to hearing the response on my phone that I get from it.
Cheers

Just had a proof of my new leaflet delivered from Tradeprint. THey have stuck in 3 pictures and it really adds to the presentation and look of the leaflet. I had just sent them the text that I wanted not thinking that they would redesign it for me. They did and it looks great. They are making a couple of changes and then printing it for me.
A picture does paint a thousand words. I think it is definately worth the extra cost for a colour leaflet and pictures.
Thanks everyone for your input on this one.

I print my own leflets on a colour laser printer, they come out like proper printing. It is an uneven 3 fold with me and the machine on the front page as a watermark so it is enough to see but not shouting. When I put the same on the YP ad the response went up about 30% instantly. Same happened when I stopped using a answerphone and diverted the calls to mobile, same again with a freephone, calls went up 50-60% but jobs also by 30%. If you dont answer yourself the cust goes to the next ad.
I think the whole thing is a 'personal' business and not just someone on a phone flogging things. You are going into someones own space so they have to have trust in you.
