I may be way off the money here being as I like VW's an' all, but aren't some of the earlier VW Caddies engines hideously underpowered and old fashioned?
-
The vw caddies have if i remember right have two engine sizes 1.6 or 1.9 so if you have the bigger one you should be ok ;)
-
Yes is the 1.9 so should be powerful enough
Thanx James :) :)

vdub fan here too ;)
2003 is a mk1 caddy. came in petrol and diesel forms
diesel's were 1.6D 1.9 SDI and 1.9TDI
if you gonna get a mk1 caddy make sure its the TDI, the SDI was a rite slug of a van.
but the TDI was old technology and its not very efficient, the sdi on the other hand is pretty good on fuel.
depend what u wont most really. economy or pulling power!
great german build quality and will run for ever if serviced regularly
hope this helps

Thanx Ian, I'm not sure which one it is just thats it's 1.9 so will remember your comment, thanx again.

Don't know what size tank you got, but payload weights are poor and not enough for 400l tank

I too am a big VW fan and setting up wfp from a van, i was looking at the caddies to stay german but i just couldnt justify paying the money, i instead went for the citroen dispatch hdi with 110bhp it has a 900kg load capacity, sliding doors both sides, plenty of room for a 400litre set up,handles quite well for a van to!!
I know they are french but im happy with it a lot of bang for ya buck and well worth a look IMO ;)

IMO - These (and their badged Peugeot and Fiat equivs) are the best vans (up to 07 reg) for 1/2 man window cleaners with 400/650L on board).
I know four windy's with them and they work as husband-wife or two man teams and fill to 600/650L out of a 900kg payload. I have a Doblo which is fine too, but I wouldn't go above 500L.
