It was bad for a few weeks but the past 6 or so have been good to work in or at least where I am they have. I wonder whether some have got used to not working and are put off by the slightest bit of cold or wet ???

I think that's very fair comment. Personally I find this miserable weather saps all motivation.

it is true that

im at home as the missus is really poorly so go to look after baby as no one else to do it but i wish i could be at work gonna be working weds - sat so not too bad

but i found after the snow if it wasnt for the money lost i didnt fancy going out and it was easy to think "o its too bad to work in"

but the best way to find out if its too bad to work in is to go and do it and very rarely have i founf its too bad apart from the odd shower or really minus cold but how often ? not very

plus you feel loads better than if you stayed in looking out

Yesterday and today show the difference in my work attitude this winter. In previous winters (and up until last August) I did not work in rain.

Last August round here it was pretty rainy most of the month and I bit the bullet and put out "rain guarantees" (as per the professionals' advice on this forum) and worked in showery and drizzly conditions. I have not had one "not today" or cancellation since or indeed one call back to deal with marked windows either.

Yesterday I started at 11am due to poor weather but worked until 3pm when it got bad again. Previously I would have probably written off the day and faffed around but at least I got 3 figures in.

Today the forecast was drizzle at 10am and rain/snow at noon onwards and again I might have written the day off or perhaps earned £40 and gone home. But I phoned up a custy to get permission to start at 8am; went like Billy Whizz and when the rain got heavier I finished with a house where I knew the owners would be at work. So home at 12 with over 3 figures again.

So these aren't "good days" by my current standards, but they are acceptable and better than nothing.

I did ok to be honnest, I took 5 days off at x-mas that was booked in, but moved them around alittle, plus I had a few more days off due to a foot of snow. But the end all was I worked about 2.5 weeks on the month over xmas and new year and took what I would normally take in three so it was a good 2.5 weeks. Every other month has been perfectly on target. I also always plan to be about 50% down at xmas anyway so -25% was actually good for me.

We do use trad poles allot which gets some done when its alittle too icy on the ground for ladders.

Too many of the houses I do are carry throughs and to be honest I wouldn't want a set of wet muddy ladders being taken through my house. It's one of the problems where I live: mainly terraced houses with no sensible back access.

Decided to give my soon to be gone if this weather continues only employee some moral support today
in the cafe at 7.30
at the first job at 8.30
balaclaved up wearing army camo gear to keep warm-look like a Ira terrorist
pull my weapon of choice from the back of the van and get in 4 hours of solid graft
then it rains
canvassing for a hour
3 new jobs
another 2 hours grafting
over 240 quid earned

I ask myself the question why couldn't the lazy bas:::d
do that for the last 6 weeks or do I have to spoon feed him forever
as someone said it's all in the mind

What do you mean by rain guarantees

This:-

Dear Customer,

So that we keep your panes and frames gleaming we provide a regular service and keep to a reasonably predictable schedule; however it can be a bit of a juggling act getting the balance between arriving on time and not cleaning in really bad weather.

To preserve schedules we clean in drizzly and showery conditions too. Please be assured that the purified water system (unlike the previous traditional method) contains no soapy residues - and this means that your windows will remain clean despite squally showers that may land on the glass during the cleaning and allowing to dry process.

However, in the rare event that you feel the rain has marked your glass then please do not hesitate to call us back within 24 hours of the original clean and we will gladly clean the offending window(s) again.

I guarantee not to turn up  ;D

Ian just used the word "asinine" in his post on the WILLIS thread. Good word that. As in "Another one of Gold's asinine posts." Could apply to some of Ewan's too!  ;D
