Title: Slumpbuster and what he knows about FWC
Post by: Bryan_Dolby on February 21, 2010, 07:00:40 pm
Slumpbuster
I had more thought on what you have posted and wanted its own post

You say FWC

Exploits members with fees, forces them on courses that aren't needed, and has pompous or self serving committee members.

Doesn't have a policy on registration with trading standards or licensing, no best practice advice, no voice to govt over hose pipe bans etc.

No included benefits to joining.

1/ Can you name the pompous self serving committee members and how you come to that opinion and any evidence on this

2/ Do you think our industry does not need qualifications and courses

3/ Was you at any of the meetings about the hose pipe ban and were did you get your information from, can you supply any paperwork to back your comments?

4/ Industry best practice advise / fwc as been involed in the following

NVQs
Guidence sheets HSE / FWC
DVDs made about ladders and WFP
Iosh training
Seminars trade shows
Trade shows
DEFRA
Window talk
Insurance underwritters

information above must go to industry best practice

5 / How do you know we do not work with trading standards more information needed

6 / Licencing is only in Scotland there is nothing in England
The FWC did organise the first meeting for Scottish members to see what they wanted to do about licencing

please reply

Bryan

Has the FWC had a decline in membership, or having financial difficulties at the moment or something? ???

Hi Bryan,
Good to see that you are paying attention.

I thought that as a condition of joining the fed you had to go on a course, i'm glad to be proven wrong on this.

What is the policy on registration with trading standards then? Are you for it or against it?

Defra did a consultation prior to a white paper reframing legislation about drought orders, Trevor knight asked us on here for comments and views, i don't recall the fed doing a similar canvass.
To answer your points
1. Well every year about windex show time .........
2.You got me on this. Yes it does
3.You mean 'were you at any meetings', no but via this forum we were all given a chance to comment.
4. Best practice advice includes rainwater collection, ladder safety devices etc but i do see some merit in what you have done here.
5. I don't know, but if you are, good.
6. Does the fed have a view on this?

So as you can see i'm not claiming to know very much about this at all.And certainly don't claim any inside knowledge. If i have given you a platform to state the facts correctly, then good.

I see bryans answer on the original post was quite a good one and that the fed is offering quite a few things that add value to a business. He is quite right i don't know very much about this and should probably shut up.

It is a harder org to criticise than it used to be and some of my judgements are from other fields. It's obvious they have made big improvements and i shouldn't be knocking what i don't know much about.

I don't want to get into an argument just for the sake of it. The poor bloke isn't peter mandleson so i feel better about myself just losing this.

If i did go i wouldn't mention being on ciu, i'd be too embarrassed, i would be able to spot a lot of the ciu people though as i am good at this sort of thing (realising who people are in a crowd when i've only seen them once in a grainy newspaper pic etc).

Not you though Euan, i have the least info on you, apart from your owning a facelift and slx.

I may go it's not far from me and i went to school in coventry- pres kennedy sch- a comp not a grammar >:(.

I do like reading other peoples comments about the shows-' i spoke to craig for quite a while and he's an okay guy' sort of thing, and i think there was some girl on one of the stands who made a bit of an impression on some of the lads.

Glyn would be good to meet, and omnipole are down as exhibitors.I wonder if he's as grumpy as he came across here?

I'd like to try some of the ionics and brodex stuff, but i wonder if there was a big crowd around would you get a chance? I think they sell stuff at the show and i'd likely take cash.A glyder would interest me most. If i said i was a pole reviewer maybe i'd get a better price?

I already have two state of the art reels, but anything high tech in this area would interest me too.I've got a scudo maxi but still my old diy system, so i might be in the market for a fitted system, but my own hot system out performs anything currently available so i'd stick with that part, and as you know i'm also a couple of years in front on the winding in too.

I  am on an the new batch slx list for April. Some are in next wk but if you ain't on the list you don't get one.

I aint going but I can pick you up and we can go together.
