Title: Do you think I've shortened the battery life?
Post by: Pj on February 21, 2010, 02:35:15 pm
Someone ::) and I'm not saying who ::) but someone has plugged in our trolley battery for a charge and not noticed that the connecting wires were touching!

SOooo...The battery charger looks ok and the battery looks ok  All the wires in between are cooked nicely, so I'm in the process of replacing them.  I won't know until I've got it all back together if it will even work!  But hoping for the best and hoping that the charger still works -

Do you think the battery will be sick?

Not as sick as its owner.

Would that someone be you ?

Batterys are fairly robust, as you already found out most of the damage was limited to the wires, tell tale signs on a battery are melted terminals, and melted plates inside the battery

Thanks Dave

Makes me laugh really, inside the sealed box that ...... Engineering put the battery in, is of course the battery

On the side of the battery is written

Warning - Do Not Put In Sealed Box
Warning - Do Not Short Circuit

No wonder the won't give more than a 3 month warranty ;D

Are you saying that the wires from the chrger are melted? If the wires from the charger were touching it should have blown the internal fuse of the charger.

I had that happen to me once when using a cheap charger. Never blew the fuse and lucky my mrs spotted smoke coming out the garage.

And very good warnings to Pj
1. Sealed Box =
2. build up of gas
3. Short circuit=
4. The makings of your first bomb  :o

Unless those Engineers have drilled holes around the base of the box??
