I have wiped and cleaned my hose a few times, But have never to be honest cleaned out my Slx. I was getting a bit concerned of wear due to seeing scratches Etc.
I have just spent twenty minutes with a friend helping, properly cleaning all sections and all the hose. Thing looks almost new again. It was a bit tight sometimes opening too, Now is smooth as anything. Any sort of wax or anything to put on it ??
So I suppose the answer is, Don't moan about things wearing down, Look after them in the first place.

Just thought there may be some sort of pole protection stuff.
Seat poles with quick release get oiled up.

just a damp cloth. we never maintain poles though m8

How often do you use the pole out of intrest. It the summer time I found out that it wears out the most. The pole kept drying out causing wear when you extended and closed it.
-
To be honest haven't used it loads. But also haven't looked after it. Probably about a months full use.

heavy duty silicone spray on pole works well or if you are a real cheapskate use mr sheen!

mines caked up on the insides too, does anyone use them with hose on the outside,I think this would help prevent it ???

Gardiners sell ptfe spray to help protect the pole.
Do not use a wax based polish as this will cause surface of pole to break down more quickly.

I have used ptfe spray from gardiners it dont last long day or two.

Just take some time out every few months when it gets stiff. Take all the sections apart and give them a good wash down, anything will do, i use warm soapy water and flush out each section, then put it back together. Takes about half an hour. And don't be so lazy! ;D

I strip mine down, wash all sections and then pull a 'numpty' of cloth through on a length of string as a final clean. My slx 25 feels as good as new after I do this. Practically no noticable wear to date.
Seeing various posts about wear I wonder if some users aren't adjusting the clamps correctly. I have mine so that they clamp tight enough in use but do not give any friction when open. Also, it's important that the clamp is fully opened when closing the pole. I've noticed that the pole can be closed without the clamp being fully open but there is a noticable amount of friction still present. This would certainly cause extra wear on the pole. Just a thought.
