Title: Is it posible.............
Post by: jarvy on February 09, 2010, 09:31:14 pm
Hi,i have a 200gpd r/o,been looking at the 300 and 450gpd r/o's. Is the only difference between mine and those an extra membrane or is there more to it? getting fed up of mine being sooooooooo slow, even with the booster pump on it,its just not quick enough!  >:(

yes its just an extra membrane, yours will have 2 100gpd`s i`ve got the 300gpd system. its still quite slow imo it takes a few days to fill my 1000ltr ibc tank

There is also a 450gpd system with 3 membranes, are these a higher volume membrane? Maybe it's worth adding another membrane, maybe i should just look at getting a 'proper' setup!

Javvy get a 4040, you will have more time to do things like chilling out

You can add extra membranes (Up to 3 without a booster pump, up to 5 with a booster & auto flush system) but you'll need to change the flow restricter too.

I uprated mine from 200 to 300 and I get about 400L of pure in 24 hours.

I upgraded from 200gpd to 500gpd and I have a booster pump, I am getting 70% pure to 30% waste.
it fills at a rate of 1ltr per minute.

I am wondering if I can fit 150gpd mambranes in the housing I have, my membranes are 100gpd at the mo.

Anyone know the cheapest place for 150 membranes at the moment? mine could do with being changed, when I bought the system the 150's ROman sent me were faulty so they replaced them with 100's as they thought the whole batch of 150's was the same. I really struggle to produce enough now. Its a case of planning ahead the whole time and its driving me nuts.
One of the lads forgot to turn the water on after filling yesterday morning so we are going to struggle for the rest of the week. (I may have to take friday off)  ;D

What I find has helped me is adding more storage tanks so my ro run all the time it only goes off once the third tank is full that gives me 700 litres.

Another thing which has increased my flow is to increase power to the pump mine runs at 15 volt should be 12 but the pump says 9 to 15 volt so I got a multi setting transformer. The thing that I feel limits is the ro piping been so thin.It restricts the flow.

You would be surprised how much water can flow through the john guest piping.
When I have the water on flush, it gushes out at around 4-5litres per minute.

GAPS have them and they are cheaper than the last set of 150GPD membranes that I bought from RO-man last time.

There must be an awful lot of difference between units.  I use to have a 300gpd from RO-man and it would produce water at 003 from 290-330 input and would fill my 1000lt IBC  in under 12 hours.  It came with a booster pump in a box, but when that packed up I bought a "heavy duty" 12 volt pump that ran via a transformer.

I sold the unit when I bought my 40-40 and it's still going strong and performing as above.

Are you lads careful about flushing and changing prefilters?

And do you know your incoming water pressure?

The must be some reason why some units are so poor and others good.

My Tap TDS is 412, after RO its 011, thats a 500GPD with a 125psi booster pump.
My waste water TDS is 814. it fills my tank at a rate of 1litre per minute. 350 litres in under 6 hours.
I flush my RO for 20-30 each night.

My tds before r/o is about 480. Running 100psi booster and in return getting 1ltr of pure every 2 mins 20 secs, that was in the summer, dread to think what speed it coming out at now!!  :o
Am liking the idea of quicker membranes, but is it gonna be cost effective to go this route,or like ian say's get a 4040.
