Title: Pure water filling very slowly
Post by: geefree on February 09, 2010, 07:17:55 pm
Hi,

I use a Ro, and it takes all night to fill my 650l tank, but this past week, its been filling up very slowly, and a couple of times ,if i have not been able to put the water on early enough,..... i only get half a tank,....

first i thought it was the cold weather, but its nowhere near as cold as it has been, and it was fine through all of that,

so i changed the filters,....still the same..could it now be the membranes?

i dont even know what they are, only where they are !

i have used them without changing them for two years.

grateful of  any help.  :)

Yes it will be the membranes in my experience. I have never known filters affect my flow rate but a friend of mine has had trouble with his membranes.

Hope this helps.

depends on what system is used, I use 4040 and when it slows down it is normally the pre filters that need changing.

Gazz have you flushed it for a while over 30 mins this sometimes gives it a little extra life ?
another thing have you checked all pipe work going to the ro ect? there reason I ask this a pipe on mine bent once and for the life of me could not work out what was wrong, I replaced everything, then found it was just a kink in pipe  ::)

the cold will really affect the fill rate. if the third filter is chogged up.(the carbon one) it can nearly stop production.happened to a friend of mine.

get a booster pump. Well worth the extra money.

I am sure that would help, but if the system was working fine and now it isn't, the question is - what has changed.
We don't have a booster pump and find a real difference between summer and winter filtration speeds. We have always found that there is a 'delay' into winter before this slowdown becomes noticable and it takes time in the spring before processing time improves. I have noticed this cycle every year.

I always fill my van (650l tank) to brim on Sunday and we can just manage with 2 vans through the week this way. Our IBC tank is also set to automatic fill so we can't forget to put the system on now. Though the summer we have no problems with water
