Title: New slant on the business?
Post by: JRDEasiReach on February 08, 2010, 03:37:50 pm
I have been thinking when i get enough to get myself a bigger van and a powerwasher of introducing a 'mobile car wash service' that way it can be included on my cleans at peoples houses and maybe it can generate me more work in the long term, what you reckon lads would it work, and it would for sure be a USP!!

Nothing new under the sun, I'm afraid :P

Lots of people done this sort of thing already.  My take on it is that if you want lots of 'one off' type jobs, where you do them and that's the end of it, then there are probably plenty about, but to my mind a basic quality of window cleaning is the repeat business.

'One offs' are fine when you haven't got anything else to do, but it's far better to have a full quota of window cleaning work so each and every day you know you have X amount of work waiting for you and you don't need to go looking for any more.

You can only do so much - use your time as effectively as possible - build your round and concentrate on refining it so it pays you the maximum income for minimum effort.

'One offs' are always a bit of a gamble - you may make a fortune, you may waste a day doing what turns out to be an impossible job - and what about the window cleaning work you should be doing while you're doing the one off? You can't do both at the same time and if you have spare time for doing one offs, what happens when you run out of them? You then have unproductive time on your hands.

Give me the tried and proven guaranteed earner every time.

Wasnt intending on putting the window cleaning to the one side, was maybe thinking on it as a side thing and maybe set aside a day in the week for doing such jobs, have yet to see it in operation here in NI thats why i thought of it.

maybe set aside a day in the week

Exactly my point: your 'set aside' day would be a 'sit on your a**e' day when you don't have any work to fill it.

Better to have a guaranteed full day of window cleaning, each and every day.

On the other hand if you like a bit of variety, then that's the way to go, just seems a bit wasteful to me. ::)

Just thinking of something different, i wasnt aware of any mobile ones locally to me anyway :) theres just way way to many powerwashing lads locally so that alone wouldnt be a big goer.

I did it a while back when building my rounds.  It was ok in the Summer but in the Winter I couldn't remove all the mud that had washed off the car and onto their drives so gave it up.

I was also concerned if there was any environmental problems washing vehicles down and letting possibly oily contaminated water run into drains.  Seems ok if you are just washing your own car but not sure when doing it for gain.

I then found that I could earn more cleaning windows in the same time as cleaning a muddy car.

On a positive side, cars do look particularly good when rinsed with pure water though and the customers were very pleased with the finish.

I always clean my own car with pure water but use different  brush to my window brushes.
