im finally swapping over to wfp.
taken my ages to get all my bits together and the first thing i bought was a tds meter from purefreedom.
so i took readings from my front outside tap by kitchen (330) and back outside tap (350) - did this in the summer.
as im now ready to swap over i took new readings today front tap (211) and back (197)
so why is there a difference from my first readings to my readings today?

It's best to run the tap for a minute and use the same vessel for filling as the vessel in question could be contaminated with dirt particles therefore resulting in different readings
Always turn the cup upside down or rinse before you take a reading

martin , the water tds fluctuates daily
its usually 187 here but somedays it 139 :o
and sometimes its over 200,
its nothing to worry about

I think you might find that the temperature of the water also has a bearing on the reading. I'm guessing that the readings are standardised at 20 deg C or something like that.
Actually, you don't really care too much about 330 or 350. The difference is negligible and is more precision than you really need. It's quite enough to know if the water is very soft, soft, hard, very hard etc.
I'm at a loss to explain the difference between the 300s and 200s though!
The only place that the meter needs to be accurate is when it's reading near zero. And even then it's not that vital. Although we all say that you need 000 for the systems to work, they'll work quite happily at 003 or 004. Some people go above 010 without any reported problems. I work at 006 to 008 all the time.
