Phoned for my insurance to be renewed couple of days ago and specifically asked for cover for items i am working on "yes fine" they said. I also explained I cleaned gutters too and so this must also be covered along with my public liability.
They take the money and send me the form to sign, on the back it says: we will not pay for any injury, loss or damage arising out of the cleaning of the exterior of buildings other than window cleaning.
They also give me an excess of £500 for any damage (like putting my foot through a pane, or dropping my pole. How many £500 panes do you clean?
Check the small print - they are taking the pee!

how much was it for
i found that the policies that included glass being worked on were a silly price
-
£103 for two million.

£103 for two million.
and they included the glass being worked on for that price
impressive
though i need 5 mill for a few jobs ( you know what its like being a big boy and all that ;D ;D, seriously though, i do need 5 mill )

Luckily i'm just a small fish in a big pond. Strangly, none of my commercial jobs ever ask for insurance cover ???
-
That's what insurance companies are for, taking the P that is.
I never bother with "including the property being worked on" - this means only the actual pane of glass you are cleaning, and they stick massive excess figures on to discourage you from making a claim as well as hiking up the premium.
So long as I am covered in the event of me causing massive damage to a building, or serious injury to a member of the public, I'm happy. I'll take my chances that any "actual property being worked on" is very unlikely to get damaged anyway, and even if I were to break a pane of glass, the cost is likely to be far less than the excess I would have to pay in the event of a claim.

Just renewed mine through Allied Insurance Services, insurance is with Quin.
£10m employer and £5m PL, excess £250 on PL. Covers Damage to property being worked on, Treatment Risks, Loss of customers keys, Height limit of 25m. Cost £435 pa. I compared with simply business but couldn't get confirmation in writing as to exact cover and their cheapest was only £20-£30 less than I paid.

My biggest worry is pulling the guttering down on a fifty foot building - gonna cost a fortune to fix :o
-
Well, untill they point out Endorsement number 1008 that excludes flammable materials ;D
-
lol tsh i dont think 10 million will be enough...please dont mention that scenario to any insurance companies.
-
Mine is with AXA. it includes property being worked on BUT this has a £500 excess too. ::)
It's for 1 million & is only £67 though. :D
-
dont forget to READ THE SMALL PRINT . on axa policies the twats .mind u all ins componies ar the same i suppose . qiuck enough to take our money but when it comes to paying out they find details in our policies that we have not read
-
i wouldnt bother with property damage, you may as well pay out of your pocket if you damage anything, if you break a gutter thats about £50? window pane max £300, my pli was £60, save yourself a few quid mate
