You get out of canvassing what you put into it!! When I started window cleaning I went from 0 to 300 customers in 3 months!! It can be done!  ;)

I will be doinbg some canvassing myself once I've caught up with my work backlog.  I'm afraid that some of the custies have started messing about.
So the three C's now:-
Canvass
Cull
Clean

In the space of two days I had four send me away ( 1 x don't need doing, 1 x it's been raining, 2 x couldn't be arsed to unlock the back gate) and one cancel (at least she paid for the two cleans first  :)  ).  The funny thing is that I sensed with all of them that there could be issues at some point.  Maybe you just get a nose for it after a while.  If I dump the four, the whole lot together (including the cancellation) would be a drop of £59 @ 6 weekly and £40 @ 12 weekly.  That's about an average of £13 a week.  Shouldn't take long to make that up.  Two of them NEVER send payment and one waits it out for ages.
I know I should be moe used to it by now but it really can bug me getting sent away when I've made the effort to turn up.  It's the thing I find most irritating.  Two of the custies are cab drivers.  I will try to behave like a pro and write to them when I cancel.  I will liken being sent away to someone phoning for a cab and when they arrive at the pickup point they find that no-one is there.

I very rarely get told 'not today' as I'm usually half finished before they realise I'm there!  ;D

I'm afraid this one is lost on me as I don't have any detailed memory of the characters in that story.
I'm sure I would find it funny though  :)
I picked up a £22er today when not looking for it so that makes up for some of it anyway.
Also, I declined to quote on another job.  I was asked to call when working along the road.  So I went along and her dog ran out, leapt up at me and put its jaws either side of my arm.  It was playing and it didn't try to clamp but I'm just not prepared to work in such environments.  This is the second time a dog has done this to my arm when trying to quote.  The first one damaged my jumper.  Again it didn't try to clamp but my jumper got caught on its teeth.  If they are happy to allow their pets to show me who's boss then they obviously don't value my safety or security so they can go forth and multiply and find some other mug to clean their windows.
I'm so glad I won't put up wuith that garbage these days.

Again this one is lost on me but if it's a reference to my profound wisdom then I concur   ;D

78 in one day!Crikey that's good going.I'm delighted with 5 in a week.Admittedly I rely on leaflets rather than door knocking generally.

after knocking for weeks there i was beginning to get demotivated but after last weeks haul of over 22 all week long im chuffed to bits and have renewed optimism, door knocking is the ONLY way to get new business i feel.

Its all about knocking for best results. Tbh I dont really leaflet unless someone is not in when I knock. I intend of having about 10000 put out over the next six months. But mostly knocking.

It was 78 quid in the day, well just over a hour.

I say start knocking craig.

Well done Ryan, food that your sticking at it. I miss too many days by getting caught up or being a bit lazy...... :-\

ive started to go out in the evening just after 6pm and before 8pm now when its still dark in the evenings, i must admit i was a little scared to but when i did i found out they answer the door as normal and some are chuffed to see you coming too, few of the older ones are a bit funny with door chains and stuff but thats accepted.

Its all good, motivation is the only problem. I want 15 customers this week. That is my target, and I think I will achieve it I achieve it.

I go for private owner houses. Have a few council houses etc and there is no problems with them or payers, just prefer working on the detached's etc.

Have any of you guys canvassed during normal working hours (ie 9-5pm) and if so how have you done?

I guess you can pick up stay at home mums during this time...

Have done both and it depends what area you hit, my ideal would be a wife at home as does not need to work, which would mean 9/5 is ideal, does mean knocking more doors but gets the right people in when you speak to them, instead of everyone in and more knock backs. Thick skin is everything

I love canvassing, especially when you come to a house that has really dirty frames and glass. The ones where no one has been in for the other canvassers but they are in when you knock and they need a window cleaner. Yesterday after four hours that happened and it made it all worth wild.

Went out today for about 3 hrs and got 4 new custys and 1 possible. Total = £45.

It was a bit slow to start, but worth the effort. I will be doing some more this week, maybe try some evenings and see how they compare to a Sunday.

my answers to a few questios here

I canvass all sorts. council, new build, country houses, town houses.

and

i normally canvass during normal working hours. If someones windows look dirty and there not in, i pop a leaflet through, and call back a few evenings later...

if it works, dont knock it ;D
