Clean It Up

I've just quoted for a large residential block. I asked the manager why they have decided to stop the current guy. She said that all the residents were complaining as when the windows dried they were covered in white spots.
We got into light discussion about the volume of pure water the job required and she didn't seem to click with what I was saying. It turns out the guy has been turning up and just connecting his pole to the outside tap!! I saw a couple of the downstairs windows and they were terrible - it really does look like the guy was just using tap water.
The TDS around here is betweem 300 and 400 so I don't think he could have even been using an on site purification system.
The problem here is that it has put all the residents off WFP cleaning and they have demanded that the manager goes back to a traditional guy. It's 4 floors and over 150 windows.
I really want this job so I am going back to give a free demonstration on a few windows to prove the system. Even if I don't end up getting the job, I hope I will have given confidence to the residents in WFP. I also played the H&S card.
Out of interest - is there a cost effective system that can provide pure water on site from a source at 300 - 400 TDS?
-
I wouldnt of thought you could get a cost effective way with that TDS

Rain Water!! I use it and before it goes through the resin the tds is 32.

Me neither Matt - I just wondered if I was doing this guy a mis-service by thinking that he really did just connect his pole direct to the tap. With the large number of large windows on this job and a source TDS of 300 - 400, I couldn't imagine a cost effective on-site system being available. However - I would be interested if there is one.

The only on site solution i know is the quattro from ionics. But the amount of times you will use it, this wont be cost affective. Good luck

the rainwater idea is a good idea, if u could harvest it neatly and reliably.
A double di resin vessel set up can be quite good, and could be set up for a couple of hundred new. If it was only used 4 times a year or so, it wouldn't run out too quickly, esp if the slow rate through the resin was slow,
Be aware that if there is a large build up of water marks, you might need to use MDR (mineral deposit remover)
Otherwise u might find they look awful still even after you've cleaned them with pure water.

i would offer a free demo to show how to use a wfp propaly, but the windows are going to be covered by hard water spots so you need to treat these first, spray on cillit bang first the wash as normal, i use this all the time when gardeners have left sprinklers pointing toward glass.

Nice idea rg1. But I don't have any problem producing pure water at my base.
Following on from my original thread, I thought how convenient it would be if we didn't have to carry large volumes of pure water about. I would love a system where I just unloaded a lightweight filtration system and just connected to the customer's water supply. No need then for a large van and associated costs -
Dreaming - I'm always Dreaming - I know a song that goes like that ;D

Thanks SG - I might need to do something like this but Cillit Bang on the 2nd 3rd and 4th floor might be a problem. It seems like this previous guy has been cleaning this way for a while. Like you say a trial and free demo will be the answer. If the lime is really bad on the upper floors, I might just walk away from it.
ps. Which Cillit Bang do you use - is it the special limescale remover one?

150 window over 4 floors, i guess the are fairly evenly laid out, i do a similar ammount af window on a job over 2 floors and dont empty my 250 litre tank. how much do you think you are going to use

To be a bit more specific, what I meant was store rainwater at the site and then just connect your pole through a di and pump. A site that big I would imagine you could store large ammounts of rain water.

the lime scale one, lidl do a cheap one or 99p shop did one that came with no spray nozzle. i always put it in a clear sprayer dont want the customers thinking they can do it themselves.
i would have a look and charge for the limescale removing as well. they hired this cowboy, yet another moron giving window cleaning a bad name.
good luck with it.
