should i employ someone on a zero hour contract how many days holiday r they entitled too??? or how do you work it out cheers richy

well if there on zero hours zero pay ,me thinks but richy ,might work same as part time

Zero hours contracts mean they have all the rights of full time employees however they are not guaranteed set hours each week.
If you use them then they are entitled to holidays and holiday pay which is pro-ratered and based on their last 12 weeks work.
As an employer it is a safe way to employ people without the worry of having enough work for them, as an employee you may find that they will always be looking for more of a guaranteed wage each week.
We have just changed our window cleaners from being on zero hour, 100% bouns based contracts, to being on 35 hour a week fixed hourly rate contracts with a year end bonus for hitting preset targets, I'm hoping that over the year everything will balance itself out as lately the snow has meant we have done very little but they have still been getting paid!! :-\

the only problem i see with a 0 hour contracts, is actually geting someone to want it, the way this country is with tax, credits, housing benefits etc, i wouldnt want to work on a 0 hour contracts, as i wouldnt get working tax credits, and the housing beneifts would have to change each week, i just would not be botherd with the hassle,
Ian is right over the 12 weeks, you have to add up all there earnings for the last 12 weeks, devided by 12 and this gives an average and this is the holiday pay
