We send out a certain amount of letters each Monday to shops, pubs, residential homes, etc and contact each one the following Monday to see if they have any interest in using our services.
Sometimes they say no, sometimes they ask for a quote. It works for us and we can usually pick up something each week.

i think alot of shop front work is taken up because its so easy. i have 1day of shops every week. In the past i`ve kept my eyes open for new shops opening so i can be the first to talk to them about their window cleaning needs.

in my local town we have the same old faces cleaning all the job windows - we call them townies.
four or five old boys with a dirty minging black mope and a old beer towel.
not very good either but what we see as a £5 - £10 shop front, they did it for £2 - £4 so shop managers are happy with the price rather than the windows - stupid i know but thats the way alot of them think.

to he honest a lot of wc think that shops and commercial are the way to go, i went in to my local town yesterday and seen about 5 wc going the high street, which is about 300 yards at most, the problem with them is like someone posted a while ago they will undercut you to get the work and it gets to the point where they are doing shops for 5 per shop, i would rather stick to domestic, a lot less hassle and better money
i remember a post on here a few weeks ago about shops and someone said in there town when a new wc starts doing the town, the old wc offers to do them for free till the new guy sods off, so there is only him left in the town centre

When I used to do shop windows, most of them were in malls. The way I picked them up was to target chain stores. Don't know what chains you have in UK, but NewYorker or Just Jeans are an example of them here. Wrote to the main office with a quote, some you get, some you don't.
The smaller shops, I just did face to face with the owner or manager. It's not always abot price though, I've picked up some shops because their wc was crap or whatever.
In my opinion, there is more money in either domestic work or bigger com jobs. It's upto you I suppose, but that's how it was for me. By the way, the big chain stores want the invoice on a 3 monthly basis, so you have to wait awhile for them to pay, IF they pay on time.
