If a topic vannishes......................
I am just simply curious as to how without pm's this all works?
And how does the sponsorship thing work?
Sorry but I am so curious. Express Cleaning Supplies have done such a good job with this forum.
Cheers

What are you sa.........................
-
Er ..............
I'm saying that if a topic vanishes then ....................
Also, how do the moderators pm the person to say that was a bit whatever and a slap on the wrist?
Or will topics vannish just because ................... but cannot say why?
I'm trying to be diplomatic and not say what i want to say because I am curious and don't want to maybe get a slapped wrist but I won't know if I am due a slapped wrist because I can't be pm'd.
I'd hate to be a diplomat. Especially a window cleaning one.
Cheers

Ross,
As a newly appointed moderator, I've not been given a set of rules to apply when amending or deleting topics.
I think the only experience I can draw on is the amount of my own topics and posts that have been 'modified'. Philip Hanson regularly deleted my posts; especially those of mine directed towards our 'Scottish Friends'.
Personally, the only ones I've deleted are those of the Friday night, closing-time 'gibberish' types or when a member has accidentaly posted half a post. And I've only ever amended one post too. I've not seen anything offensive; although a member has complained directly to me about a Scottish joke I made.
In just about every case I've let the member know why I've deleted or amended a post and the feedback was it's okay.
What I'm saying is we haven't a script saying that all posts praising another cleaning supply company must be deleted or anything. Remember, moderating is unpaid; we do it for the love of the forum.
It's really just down to each moderator to use his common sense when it comes to deleting threads, posts or making amendments. Mike Boxhall's only rule is that we don't spend anymore time on this site than what we would normally do.
I guess if something is blantantly rude; it'll be deleted without explanation. But if a post has a 'grey' area, then Ian_Giles or myself would explain why it was deleted. Now that the PM system is removed, I'd (depending on the circumstances) either e-mail the member why the post was deleted, or amend the post, adding my reasons for the amendment IN the post.
I'm sure you've seen posts here that you thought they shouldn't be. Remember VinceXYZ (John Clear-Through) and his 'gay dog'? Also the rare member who spouts pure venom.
As for using my common sense... I did give Mike a second chance to reconsider his offer of making me a Moderator.
Honest.

hhmmm STRANGE

mr nice glad to see you here

i would love to know how the 3 strikes rule happens if no pm is available to give the warnings out ;D
-
sO WHY DID MY POST DISSAPEAR? WAITING IN ANTICIPATION
GAZA
-
Which post was that Gaza?
Don't think it was me that removed it (whatever it was ???) but if I had, or should do in the future I'll at least email you (or anyone else who fall foul of my finger hovering over the 'delete post' button 8)) Providing of course you have supplied a proper email address in your profile?
Have you done so Gaza?
If that really is your email address in your profile I would be really interested in the how and why you came up with that name.
It may be that you used a word that the forum software changed into something politically correct.....
regards
Ian

The warnings will be given out via email or the login page.
Gaza, I'm not sure which post you are referring to. Maybe it's the one I deleted some time ago (which you weren't happy about) and I did explain this wasn't the place to justify punching someone. If it's another post you're talking about then I would trust the judgment of the other moderators and expect it was equally unsuitable.
It's all about using common sense at the end of the day!
Regards
Mike
