Title: TDS meter reading
Post by: skillwizz on January 20, 2010, 03:42:45 pm
Hi all, What's the highest TDS meter reading that you have cleaned with? A mate of mine says his was 30ppm.I regularly clean up to 10ppm but never above.(and never had any complaints!).Another mate who lives down south(i'm up in scotland)says that his tap water at home only reads 5ppm! correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't he be able to clean without resin or filters etc? just pumping his tap water?

Cheers George.

Most araes 'Down South' have hard water so I would think that a tap water reading of 5ppm is a slight exageration.

When you said down south i thought you meant further than Yorks.

im in warwickshire and our tap water dodges between 300ppm and 400ppm.
runs through the RO and 50psim and come out between 5ppm and 9ppm.
never had any problems with finish of the glass using the water 9ppm.

i checked mine yesterday

now i worked this week with it

it was 037  :o :o

when i checked to see why the flow was slow from the RO, it turned out the waste pipe was trapped against a downpipe and the wheelie bin  ::) so the waste wasnt flowing that well for the last week

i did the insides of this commercial job aswell and they dried ok, nothing to worry about

I was told, TDS reading of 020 will dry ALMOST perfect (meaning the marks left behind are so faint they are invisible to the naked eye)
I have never used water above 005 PPM

i see no difference in 000 or 010 TDS

from your other post, it seems 020 will be the same aswell, infact my 037 this week was fine

Matt

it seems alot of people are very hung up about 000 TDS when in practise its not needed

Maybe no difference in drying, but what about cleaning power?

It's the purity of the water that makes it such a good solvent. Is water at, say, 010 noticeably less effective that water at 000?

Anyone notice a difference?

I can't really say. I use raw rainwater and it works just fine. I haven't measured the tds for about a year now.

I'm in Aberdeenshire, next to the biggest granite quarry in the country (Granite will not dissolve so our water is pretty pure). Our tap is rarely above 50 ppm. I recon your mate is full of Tosh, 5ppm indeed?

Never use your system above 0. If you do you run the risk of starting a job at 1 then by the time you are done it has shot up, meaning you have to do the whole job again, or worse, not noticing and getting some silly old bint phoning you up going mental.

What we do to save resin is have 2 D.I vessels in series, as soon as you get a reading of 1 move the last bottle back to nearest the tank and replace the resin in the other putting it nearest the tap.

well mine ( in my post above ) was 037 and dried spot free

though at 027 it will not cost you much in resin over the year
