The great flyer debate - again ;D
Mike is the obvious guy that springs to mind as having very succesful marketing using flyers, so I'll start with a question for Mike.
Mike - If you tried putting prices on your flyers, ie 2 str sofa £** lounge carpet from £** do you think you'd get a better return per 1000 ?
I know mark Powell ( I'll ring you again mark ) also markets heavily with flyers and has a good success rate but includes prices on his flyers, and if I remember rightly (with strategic drop times ;) ) has been getting 6 - 8 per 1000, and bear in mind if prices are on your flyer, its a simple booking, no price shoppers or appointments to view to quote - Job done !
I've experimented a lot with different flyers and although the flyers I've put out are a drop in the ocean compared to these guys I've still been able to guage the response and the batch I've put out to help kickstart the new year ( with prices, shown as reduced sale offers ) are getting above the 2-3 per 1000 often quoted for flyer stats on this forum.
I still agree with all that's been said before quantity quantity quantity, and hitting the same areas on a regular basis, but I think putting a price on there (shown as offers are better) you can double, tripple or more the response rates, all of which are going to be bookings.
I think the main benefits are that your getting rid of the price shoppers and people are weary of being ripped off, sell your value.
I find a professional looking 3 fold A4 with plenty of info works well for me, your not struggling for room and they can be designed and read more like a booklet than an A5.
So I think if your flyer is doing its job, ie looking professional and getting key messages accross, you won't go far wrong.

I think it depends on what prices you charge to what response rate you get. Mark is a clever guy and has set his prices at a 'medium rate' selling based on a professional looking service and leaflet. I think it depends on what your prices are may be to his and if you are a lot more than you may have a far lesser response rate if at all.
A way round it could be to offer price ranges or approx or average price guides, it could work both ways if you put on like Mark does with various room prices sometimes customers like what they read and will want lounge, hsl, 2 beds done all in one trip and you add it up and it comes a nice job ticket.
IMO quality delivery and leaflets are the key but you would have to get lots out, perhaps Mark may post his leaflet for us all to see as he doesn't compete with anyone so has nothing to lose.

Hi Paul:
Good post...
With regards prices... I don't see the logic of putting prices on leaflets because the "Non priceshoppers" are gonna call you anyway regardless of whether prices are on your leaflets or not.
Surely all you're doing is stopping those possible customers who think you may be too expensive from calling. Sometimes all they need is a clever sales pitch from you to nudge them in the right direction. You will never persuade everyone but you will persuade some and if you put prices on your leaflets then that "Some" simply will not call
Atm I use an a5 flyer but will be changing to an a6 postcard on my next run. Have read on here that folks hold on the a6 postcards more than a5 flyers so carried out a wee survey.... Throughout the course of last week I asked 20 housewives the following question.... If an a5 flyer full colour, double sided flyer came through your door along with an a6 postcard with the exact same details which one would you be more apt to keep? EVERY ONE SAID THE POSTCARD WITH THE MAIN REASON BEING THAT THEY ARE EASIER STORED AWAY. SOME ALSO SAID THAT WITH A PAPER FLYER THEY WOULD BE MORE INCLINED TO CRUMPLE IT UP AND BIN IT BUT WITH THE HEAVIER POSTCARD NOT SO EASY.
Just my thoughts.

I know mike used to put prices on flyers yonks years ago.
I have recentley been thinking of doing so As I have a Riso its easy for me to experiment
But it boxes you in if you say have a minimum order would they have more cleaned , would a to high minimum order work against you
Also another cleaner will know you do 12 x12 for x and will then promote x minus £5

I once saw on a leaflet a cleaner had shall we say moderate to cheap prices but had a minimum of £70, I think that covered the equivalent of 2 d/s rooms.
Shaun
PS the leaflet was from DP

about 5yrs ago I had prices on my leaflets they were high for 5yrs ago but I still got plenty of calls from them, although at the bottom I wrote prices are based on an average 3bed semi @ £2.50m/sq an exact price would be given before any work commences
with suites I said due suites coming in many different sizes and the vast range of fabrics used in their construction we need to view the suite before giving a price I was charging about £90-£100 for a suite then and I knew I couldn't put that price on a leaflet and expect people to call.
if you charge average prices then it won't do harm putting your prices on a leaflet, if you want £120 for a living room then you need to tell them face to face

Somewhere in a briefcase I have a small collection of these leaflets that i've picked up and are almost identical......other than the name of business, area and phone number.
Don't know if these are all produced by the same printing company or that the format is on some printers hardware disk you could buy.
As for publishing prices that just makes it easier for Mrs Average customer to compare for the cheapest when we all know 'Quality service is going to cost that bit more.'
