Post by: drive surgeon on January 14, 2010, 03:16:05 pm
i dont have a suction hose dipped into tank i have a pipe from tank on a tap direct to my machine pump.  there is a blue filter underneath the interpump which filters out small gritt etc. how do i clean it and is it an allen key to get it off?  i cant see how else it comes off as its awkward to get to?
shoul i have a suction filter aswell as the pump filter really?

i tried but it would not move unless its dead tight.  but it has a hole underneath which looks like an allen key hole.

DS how long have you had this machine and never cleaned the filter ? You can try an allen key but if its tight it will probably round out before it turns - I usually use a pair of 15" adjustables.

i have had the machine 3 years. i put it in for service regularly i dont do anything myself as not well up on these things.  im trying to learn how to do the maintenance myself.  is the filter meant to be tightened up with allen key?  or do i just use mole grips to twist it off?

It is plastic so you don't need to hang on it to tighten it, you can use either

i will try to get it off later with mole grips although there is only a small bit to grip. so i dont need to loosen the nut with an allen key at all?

ya wanna use either moleys or spanners, weve cleaned ours once or twice on honda 13 hsp,it should just unscrew quite easy if not wd40 an a slight hit with hammer lol, when its off just rinse the round mesh, hope this helps

The 'surging' could be water starvation to the pump which could be caused by a blocked filter but the bypass flow is definitely the unloader valve going up the river.

thanks for advice guys.

i got the blue filter off and the mesh came out. there was nothing on the mesh really. i cleaned it anyway and put it back. i used plumbers mole grips to get it off.

im learing more about these machines every day so im made up.

jan said its only the pump and unloader that really goes wrong as the engine will run forver being a honda.
