hi just been to my local inland revenue and asked some questions about my tax return an they told me for those working from home can claim only £3 per week for rent, council tax and house bills .what about those that are on water meter and get big water bills or those that built a shed for storage ?
-
If its connected with work I claim it as long as you use shed just for work stuff should be ok
-
someone told me once that if you claim around £3 week, inland rev won't query it.
You do get conflicting opinions from inland rev.
I have spoken to them a few times in the past and when i've come off the phone i've been more confused ???
Inland rev do a free course the last 1/2 a day it's mentioned on the martin lewis website.
I was thinking of going this year.
tosh recomended a book but can't find it.
Get yourself a good accountant if all else fails

i'll call tomorrow again and maybe i can find a different opinion.

the tax man will work out what percentage of your time you spend working at home for you business, then he will allocate that percentage to your bill ie if he thinks you spend 5 percent of your time working at home he will allocate 5 % of your bills to it,
with the water i write down how many lit of water i use daily ie 250, 350 etc then i invoice my company for there share of the water bill that way the compayy pays for what water it uses
is the same with my van and car, i got a van that i claim everything on and i dont claim anything on the car, even though i might use it, i also pay the insurance out of different bank accounts, so that i keep both account and bills separate
the problem i see with tax return time, is everyone has that mate who earns loads and hardle pays any tax, yet never gives you the no of his accountant lol

if you try and rip off the tax man and he finds out he will go throught ur books with a fine tooth comb, hoping to find something to get you on
people only become tax inspectors because they was bullied at school and being a traffic wardens wasnt nasty enough for them
