Title: Any ideas for pipes under van freezing?
Post by: Steve_Richardson on January 09, 2010, 04:27:44 pm
Hi all,

A friend of mine has a van with the pipe connections underneath so he can lock up his van and plug in his hose reel and continue work. But as you can guess, even though the rest of his system/water is not freezing the pipes underneath are.

Does anyone have any ideas on how he can keep them unfrozen so he can work?

He needs to make sure there is no water left in pump
and hose from pump is empty of water.
We have started removing pumps from vans in these conditions.
Also remove hoselock or whatever connectors he uses.
We run pumps dry for a few seconds then remove them.
Replace them in the mornings -couple of minutes and hey presto.
He should then be free to operate until his hose reel or
pole hose freezes. ::)

trust me I have tried lagging the hoses that are external on the vans
It will still freeze.
As per my previous post above
in these conditions its the only way.

thanks guys will pass this on - also going to suggest the aquarium heaters too as I guess nice warm water will clear any last tiny freezes.
