Hi, i have been asked to quote for cleanup after a fire in a lounge, all carpets and furnishings have been removed so i have to clean ceiling and walls which are pretty sooty from half way up plus door and window frame.
I am looking for advice on best products to use and how best to tackle this type of work. I have done some research and can get hold of various product ie ultrapac renovate and chemical sponges but would like pointing in the right direction by people who do this,
any help would be gratefully recieved.

used to work for a firm that just cleaned up after fires and floods. do they realise after a house fire things like all plastics, work surfaces , ceiling tiles and lagging arounnd the pipes have to be replaced because of all the pollution that will keep coming out for years to come.

Try www.unsmoke.com They have distributors in the UK. I would advise it's a rather specialist field and not worth 'gearing up' for unless you are planning on winning more work. Best of luck.

hi there
you need to explain to the client that the cleaning process will purely prepare it for redecoration.
you need a highly alkaline cleaning solution to neautralise the acidic properties of the smoke, in really bad cases, bags of rags are good to use as wipe and then throw away.

If the fire was in the living room it will have permeated into everything above it.
The bedrooms and even the loft/attic.
Be aware, there could be more to it than meets the eye.
As someone pointed out pipe lagging and also loft insulation may be affected.
A lot also depends on the severity of the fire.

i know there is a lot to it, thats why it appeals to me i love anything that in depth. I cleaned everything above and no smoke got into loft all deodorised, customer very happy. now i want to know where to get proper training and setup. Beats some other jobs, and another string.
thanks all paul
