4ft, yes, feet not inches here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to dig my way out of the back door yesterday morning. Snow half way up the door!!
Impossible to move van even a foot. Under the snow is a layer of solid ice about 4" thick. Battery went flat on van 3 days ago even with starting it every other day. Jump leads not long enough to reach from car which is parked next to van. Can't move car either.
Pees me off that the south gets a misely 12" of snow & it makes the whole agenda for BBC news 24. Up here in the borders we get a (very) quick mension. We are snowed in, literally, our neerest shop is 4 miles away which hasn't recieved any deliveries in days & is bare!!
Tell you how bad it is, I'm worried, very worried, never seen anything like it. When I stood in the garden yesterday, the snow came up to my waist!!
I couldn't be a hero even if I wanted to, we are literally house bound!!
Funds running low & no end in sight yet. :'( :'( :'(

Not wanting to start a "north/ south" thing but why it made the news about south of England getting all this snow is because its so unusual..
Also it shows how unprepared people in the south are
-
Sounds really bad Mac. Think I remember the RAF years ago, flying scoff into some parts in Scotland to get stuff out to village shops, think it was in the 80's.
-
thought i had it bad hope all is ok soon
-
Best of luck to you Mac ;) Now when I hear someone here moaning about the 2" of snow we had, I'll shut them up with your problems. Our thoughts are with you buddie and I hope you get sorted soon.
-
Yep, puts our measly 4 / 5 inches in perspective. Good luck Macmac, hope you get a break soon.
-
Thanks guys, a quick whip round & wire transferr would be good. ;) ;D
It's mainley 3ft with upto 4ft where it's drifted.
What's made it so bad is that it started snowing here 3 weeks ago but with such low temperatures none of it has thawed. So every inch that falls just keeps topping up what's already there. We had another 1ft tuesday night. I'm even worried about the weight of it on my flat roof extension, tried to shovel it off the other day but it's just solid! One of the farm buildings behind us has had it's roof fall in already. :o

Macmac I can't remember it as bad in the Borders. Bloody just the way my luck goes, just starting out and we have the worst winter since 1963. I know a bloke that lives in Gordon(not far from you I think) and I've seen pics from where he is and it looks as rough as here in Hawick.
It looks as though it could be another couple of weeks before it starts clearing :(

Yeah, I'm 37 (although I look 23) & I can't remember seeing anything as bad as this, ever.

Macmac, if you have access to a steam cleaner then give that a go. I have used that on ice in the past and it just disappears.
I don't know whether hot water through a pressure washer might do the same thing, but then doesn't hot water freeze faster than cold?
-
Any pics?
Lucky your a pro windowcleaner Tony and will have tucked thousands away ready for this period. I'm having trouble accessing my Swiss bank account this morning otherwise I could telegraph some funds your way ;)

Thanks Ian but this is too big a scale dude.
Here's what I face-
Drive
private road
1 mile of single track unclassified road
Just to get to what most would class as a back road!

Now you're just showing off ;D

And to top it off I can't even fall back on what I normally rely on, as that is- YOU (ftp) being in a worse situation!!!!!! ;D

send 1 of the servants out to get the food, failing that get the helicopter pad thawed and you can pop down south for the warmth
on a serious note, good luck, looks like you need it

Really though, it's snow joke.
