i got stuck 3 times yesterday in my van (truckmounted). Had a nightmare on some roads and got stuck trying to get off a drive.
Decided to cancell todays work just in case and rearranged to next week, luckily the customers were all fine tho. shame as next week is really busy and needed the money ???
anyone managed to get out to clean or you all in thesame boat?

I got stuck yesterday outside my own house !
Fed up with snow now. I cancelled 3 jobs before xmas, so I ended up being off for 2 weeks over the holidays, which was nice, but now I am going stir crazy and I need to work.
No chance of getting anywhere today so I've now got 3 days of jobs to catch up on which means postponing some of next weeks.

My van has not moved since Sunday (I dont have a car), and Sunday was an OK day weatherwise.
-11 degree in Warrington last night. Everything is now crunchy underfoot and solid on the roads.
The van was warmer then the house this morning.
Tomorrows job cancelled by client - hes having a log burner intsalled in 3 weeks so he thought it better to have carpets cleaned after that.
I asked how bad was it where he lived and it takes him ages to get off his farm yard, so I am glad he postponed.
-
im the same steve and hoping by next week the snow clears so i can catch up. I got stuck just reversing the van on and off the drive this morning and thought no way am i going out today.

Parked on a slightly sloped drive just before Christmas. Whilst inside looking at the job, the van slid back around 9 feet coming to a rest against the metal/concrete gate post. Did more damage trying to get it off the thing.
My insurance were going to drop my no claims from 12 years back down to 3 years which meant my next premium would increase by over £800. Getting it sorted privately for £400.

Got stuck in my car yesterday on a car park. It was covered in compacted snow which was very slippy.

Hi Guys
I got stuck in my TM several times before Xmas and have been much more cautious this week.
Did the first 2.5 days but have now rearranged into next week, may still work Sat.
I am fairly relaxed about it but would like to get working properly again soon.
Cheers
Doug

I went out to do one job today as it was a must but when I went to teh property the road was jut thick ice and I had to advice the customer that I could get the van close enough, but he wasn't very happy, will he pay for my new clutch when I burn it out or pay my insurance increases? only an £80 job.

Twice
I've also slipped and fallen twice-the second time I banged my head and elbow big-time. Wasn't really planning to work this week but have put back a couple of jobs which I had already pre-qualified about the weather.
I'm really in no rush whilst it's so slippy/dangerous/slow to go to work.
Good job I've got enough pennies to see me through.

I've had enough of staying in now it's just not funny and they've said more of the white stuff for the weekend !
Shaun

The thing that makes it worse is the fact that most athorities have little or no salt left.

I'll be using the Discovery for a job down the Lizard, there's no way I'm taking the Combo out on those roads!
-
Bet your well stuck up there Mark.
Job takes twice as long in this weather anyway trying to avoid trailing snow in
and loading and unloading carefully to avoid slipping.

I slipped on a custys drive and ended up in a pile on the floor, looked like I was trying outdoor yoga the position I ended up in.

All this spare time with conditions brill for mountaineering, only problem is, cant get to them, Grrrr. Settled for a crampon walk up Pen Y Ghent in Yorkshire last weekend.

I haven't been to work all week. Really bored. I tried to get up to he unit to load the van and almost got stuck on Tuesday. I took a walk up there today with the dog an the road is like a skating ring. I have to go there to fill up TM tank so pretty stuffed at the moment.

Result of the pre xmas snow was it took over an hour to travel the final 200 yards through the estate to the house, so I've not been willing to risk that again or worse with this snow fall.
Only just managed to catch up with those jobs cancelled before xmas and then this lot came out of the sky.
Going stir crazy and not helped by the phone going dead because no-one is going to try and book a clean that is unlikely to happen.
On the plus side all the required painting is now just about done. The websites have had plenty of attention to the areas that needed sorting and the commercial marketing letters have been printed and sent

Started to snow a blizzard here just I thought it was clearing up.
Shaun

Shaun, i think you may get a bad hit over the weekend were you are, im keeping my fingers crossed here.
-
I think I've made an army of snow men, daughter loves making them but all I can hear is Billy Turnip singing Aled Jones.

Far too dangerous to spend any time out working .
Far better to be sat in the warm marketing , lining up work and marketing materials for when the weather turns.
Direct line have got a 2000% TWOTHOUSAND!!!! RISE in motor claims for the first week of the year ,, what is the point, you can only work at half speed at best.
-
You know you're right Jason but when you condition yourself into getting and doing work it's hard not to do what you feel is right AND the missus wants to go shopping!
Shaun
PS Jeremy Kyle is crap

The same as Mark here, been using my Vitara with porty and roto in back. When i finally got to a job in Fareham, second time of trying (76 mile round trip) i still had to use low ratio gears to get up the street :o
Looks like same again, next week, if the snow they have forecast arrives on Sunday :(
Regards

I have 5 nice flats lined up from the only let agent I deal with.
Knew of them a few days before Xmas.
Wanted to do them between Xmas and New year but couldnt contact anyone for the keys.
Now they chasing me to get them done and I am slowing them down due to conditions.
I had trouble pushing the Sainsburys trolley thro their car park never mind the Scorpion across the flats car park.

Joe
Get some crampon's from your local ski shop and pull (not push) the machine.
-
Am not going to do any domestics till it tarts to thaw. For myelf and others for saftey reasons and also my vehicle in case it gets stuck.

You right Adi - pulling is a lot easier then pushing. I used the wrong word - I was pushing the trolley around the store but pulling it in the car park - still difficult.
-
shaun, love it. took a while to get used to it but wouldn't swop it now,

On a slight thaw hear in north Cheshire.
For the first time in days there was no frost on the inside of my cab windows.
OK i have had a heater on in the back 24 hours - not too high, just keeping it above 3 degree I reckon, but on previous mornings that has not helped the cab much.
Side roads still bad, only main roads here been gritted - like most places I suppose.

Got stuck today >:( >:(
I'd forgotten the job was down a cul-de-sac which sloped downhill from the top road. As I drove down I suddenly thought "s**t I'm not going to get back up this slope!". Thought I might as well get the job done and sort it afterwards...
Borrowed the custy's shovel and spent about 90 mins digging myself two tracks in the ice. Dropped back and hammered it up my 15 yard runway, dropped into second and got up the rest of the 100 yard hill rally-style :D Wheels spinning like mad chucking the snow out behind me ;D
Don't want to do that again, better things to do than provide a free road clearing service for the neighbours, hope my neighbour nudgers get me some work from them (after the ice has gone!).
Roll on spring.

got really stuck in the snow today.
decided to put off my carpet jobs this week so spent the day in the workshop doing a few restor jobs on some leather furniture. all goin well workshop heater running flat out was very pleasant no need for even a jumper. Lovely i though this is the life.
Then heard a a bit of a weird sound coming from the roof heat from heater had made all the snow slide down the roof creating a 2ft drift right by the door door stuck so was directing the mrs from my chair on how to shovel the snow .
Mind you i was nice and warm whilst she dug me out .
Ps when i got out wish i had stayed put she was not best pleased
-
Hahahah classic!! :D
I'd take that heater out to the dog house with you tonight mate, gonna be chilly again ;)
-
Snowed in again today and im starting to get totaly P1ssed off with it. Had to cancel more jobs and even declined a lucrative flood job.
This has got to be the worst Jan on record.
-
I had a nice job out at the edge of the sticks not far from where I live and I still couldn't get there, still getting a few calls and they want to book a date I'm just booking them for next week and we'll see.
Last Jan I had a record month for the time of year this year could be the worst.

Glad its not just me then, lends a tenner ;)

Went to a small flood job. Fought through all the slush etc. Got set up only to find the flood had tripped the electrics and I couldn't turn my machine on. Had to pack up and go home. Still trying to work out how to charge a "call-out" fee.
And before all you TM'ers laugh because I have a porty...can I just point out one thing.......
You can't run blowers and de-humidifyers off a TM-you still need electricity for them. ;) ;)
