Title: chancers or wc
Post by: daz1977 on January 06, 2010, 09:09:25 pm
been reading a few of the posts and a few of them seem to be on about doing other work, when you aint wc, fair enough

the point i am trying to get across is that a lot of these posts seem to come from newbies,  i want to know what other people think  are these people just jumping on the wc band wagon thinking they can make money and jump off when they realsie how bad it is,  or are the older wc, just stuck in there ways with wanting to do wc only

I am happy to add any service to my business as long as it will make a profit and that it is a services customers
are happy to pay for.

Daz, been shining now for awhile, moving over to carpet cleaning lately. But there is alot of money in this WC game. Just don't really want to do it for another 15 years. Nothing wrong with window cleaning though.

wc has always for me been a part time job, i originally bought my round over 7 years ago as my full time job was going through a bad time and we had a lot of lay off weeks and i was losing a lot of money that i couldnt afford to, i asked my then window cleaner if he was interested in selling his round and i bought it off him. I have managed to work this round (legitimatly i may add) around my other job since, i have also grown my round into a nice little job and the only reason i keep doing it is because i enjoy it so much and i always have something to fall back on if my main job goes belly up. i have recently spent a lot of money to go wfp as well so i aint no fly by night  ;D

I dont see any problem with this, i do however understand that the majority of people like myself flit in an out of the wc game and never go legit so therefore can underprice genuine wc's and take their work off them

Window cleaning always was my part time sideline until a couple of years ago when I had to make a decision. Trying to divide your time between two different businesses causes both to suffer.

None of us set out in life to be a window cleaner. We are all chancers.

Just a quickie...what would be deemed in your eyes as part-time?

What I'm sayin is that I don't see a problem with what I do as I'm not a fly by night wc an I don't undercut people to get work, people who aint legit don't care an undercut people who are tryin to make a livin, why not ask what I mean instead of just puttin silly faces? I will answer them as I'm a nice guy

I have been window cleaning for 10yrs now and for 5 of those i have had an additional part time job. Its a night support worker position and i work sunday night only. Its a sleep over position so i can get 6hrs sleep and work fine on monday morning.

 Guess i must be a chancer :-\

i wasnt saying that if you have a part time job, then you are a chancer,  the point i was trying to get across, is that there seems to be a lot of new people becoming wc and they seem to treat it as a part time job, or something to make do for now,  and seem to want to make money some where else, doing other things

I think window cleaning is a easy in easy out business and there will always be people in and out as well as partimers. The thing that gets me is a full time fellow pays tax and I wonder if the others pay as they should .I have 4 fire man in my street doing windows and seem to have a very good life style, tax free I guess. I do not see them as a problem as if they want to give up family time that’s fine with me. But I remember all to well a strike a few year back for more money.( The Green goddess time and wanting 28 G p.a .) They also tell customer they are the only one who are legal to use ladders.

Well having only started in September i am just going for the windows only for now until i get enough built up maybe then ill add something else, maybe not but i am in this for the long haul and tbh i quite like being outside working apart from when it rains but then again if you are warm and toasty and making some cash then why worry.  I, too am sick to death of undercutters, some of them obviously arent legit, i am and will continue to be its just some custies dont see that you are 'making a living' not 'topping up' your other job etc.

with the country in the state it is at the moment wages being cut job losses
it a easy few quid to supplement their wages  when going down the part time trad route as the outlay aint that big
can blame people for working rather than scrounging on the rock and roll or ripping off the benefits system
i couldnt really care whether they pay tax or not-the government only waste it anyway
as long as im still busy and working
at least while they are cleaning windows theyre not sitting on there arse waiting for the next handout paid for by my hard earned tax contriburtions
but if they are having a claim up and working as well thats a different matter
i hope they fall off their ladder
