Title: Exterior cleaning of new prefab style houses
Post by: Ian Rochester on January 05, 2010, 07:32:54 pm
I've just had a request to do some pressure washing of the exterior of 20+ new build prefab style homes, basically the want any excess mortar and traces of scaffolding marks cleaned off prior to the new clients moving in.  They currently use a cleaning company who pressure wash the exteriors but also use some sort of chemical to remove the mortar.

Anyone any ideas as to what this chemical could be, I was thinking probably a brick cleaner or similar?  We have a 4000psi petrol pressure washer and a 3.6m extended lance

I do quite a lot of new and extension builds for a local property developer - I very rarely use any acid as the snotters will come off if you get the nozzle almost parallel to the wall. I clean it all from the ground as they've struck the scaffold as he gets me in last, I use the extending lance with QR so I can use TFR on the algae for pre spray and then the turbo on the snotters. Most building sites frown on the use of acids overhead. Don't go in too soon if the mucks still "green"

Quick release - it allows me to change the nozzles so I can use the extending lance to spray using the chemical injection at low pressure

do you use a turbo nozzle on your extending lance? i know you can get them in the united states.

Yes I use the turbo on the extending lance - I use the same nozzles because everything has 1/4" quick release on top of the 22mm so I can even use the wall float. High pressure nozzles on the gutter hook are a bit of a handful !

Bricklaying contractors - they drop muck and it hits the bricks at every lift, they put muck all over paths on the way to the van and back. They just do the job and then get you in to make it look like they run a tidy job - I don't charge much but it leads to other work

If you think you will get the builders clean then make sure you get the tape off and muck off the windows before they strike the scaffold.
