Title: isopropanol
Post by: marcus hopkins on January 03, 2010, 09:36:59 pm
I am sure this has been discussed many times but i am unclear of the exact details from my readings.
Does anyone know the exact ratio of isopropanol to water mix?
I have read different answers, some even conflict with themselves lol.
I have read on Robinsons solutions

http://robinson-solutions.blogspot.com/2008/12/isopropanol-window-cleaner-in-winter.html

that the ratio is 1liter to 650 liters of water, but the chart on the same page equates to 10% meaning 65liters to 650 liters of water.
Will this still leave the windows spot free?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Marcus

Iso is an alchohol that evaporates from the glass and leaves absolutely no residue. It rises to the top of any tank and layers unless you stir it constantly, I suggest a simple bypass, doing this helps reduce the ammount needed.

Any idea of the mix ratio though?
I have got a price from litho supplies of £21 a drum unless anyone knows of a better supplier?

No I just guess but it depends a lot on what temp you want to protect to, if its lower than minus 2-3 forget it and stay home, the bristles freeze anyway.

20ml to 10L @ minus 2, stir well.

Mix for extra cleaning power is 1:100
Mix for anti freeze is 1:10 at -4 deg Celsius

didnt people discuss the health issues of spraying it around and it being a fine mist coming off the glass ? ? ?

which is a concern

Interesting argument Matt  :o never gave that one a thought.
So basically in the temperatures we have at the moment the mix is 10% for it to act as an antifreeze.
