Title: canvassing,when to start
Post by: Jackal on January 02, 2010, 10:19:11 am
when are some of you going start back canvassing i was thinking 11th jan, im just asking because i think it maybe to soon after xmas and money may be tight for people im looking to gain around 80 custys in a couple of months is this asking to much?

plus to save time is it best to just post a leaflet through doors that already seem to have a wc (just by looking at the windows see if they have been cleaned recently) or canvass all houses.

80 in a couple of months is perfectly possible.  Don't expect them all to be good customers though.  Once I had built up a full workload (took a year or so), I had a fairly lengthy "to be dropped when no longer needed" list.
Canvassing builds the work up faster than leafletting.  Don't let the condition of the windows be your guide.  Some people clean them themselves and hate doing it.  Often (but not always) such houses will only be clean downstairs

Dont think theres a set answer to this question

I was canvassing on wednesday all day & only gained about £40 in new work. I went canvassing again on thursday and got £45 of new work in an hour.

Then i went today & got nothing   ??? all i managed was to give a quote to a friend of a friend.

Too early to start canvassing would you say?

Also, what times do you do? I hear Sat and Sun 6pm til 8pm is ideal when the clocks go back.

That's awesome Danny, what times are you going out though to get 6 a day?

I've been out of the country for 3 months - I can't believe it's dark at 4:30. Surely canvassing in the dark isn't a good move.

Sometimes you havent got a choice just like collecting in the dark.

Just make sure you have a good and direct introduction and you be fine.

I canvass 6pm until 8.30pm at the latest its hard not to get carried away. Id be out until midnight if i had the choice.

Going out this late is better because its when most people are home after work

Julius,
Good on you keep it up. Yes i will be out next week and christmas week taking bookings for january.
The last two weeks in december isnt good for cleaning because of christmas being so close and normally cash is tighter.
Keep going and dont lose face at the door because the more confident you are the more professional you will come across.

Secondly never seem desperate or youll get killed. Always canvass whenever possible i have found out twice that if i would have moved faster i would have gained two estates full of customers.

If you dont knock your business will fail and you will never be a success. If you cant do it yourself hire a canvasser on part time to knock for you. Im going to hire two canvassers after christmas to give me that final push to achieve a full round by march.

Danny

Hi Danny yes im craigs brother.

A few are confused about whos who but criag was platinum then when i started up and craig retired from the ladder i was called platinum north west.

I clean in most areas of st helens with a few half days in other counties. Im also close to gaining a few commercial jobs in the north west.

Are you the guy who bought craigs last round a few months ago?

Regards
Danny

If i do sell it will be 2012 at the earliest.

Ronnie cleans a round in sutton only i think...

The work i have is all over st helens and my prices start at £6 a house so price wise i have better priced work then i ever had.

Funny that because some rounds i have sold the new cleaners got customers i couldnt get and lost some that i considered loyal. I guess its more of a personal touch with some people....

Do you clean with wfp ?

Regards

Iv got a few custies in sutton that i picked up but i do most of it in sutton mannor. I might actualy be buying a van and wfp system from ronnie but im not sure yet. You dont like them do you? I want to get some commercial work around here hopefully.

I had one from brodex and it wasnt the best.

If you are going to buy one id say commercial is the best work for them. When you buy i think you need to buy the best poles and bushes with fanjets in my opinion. Its worth spending top dollar from what ive seen if you can afford it....

I am thinking of buying one next year and maybe a hot system from what ive seen on here about them. They are expensive but a few have built their own so thats an option.

I might be gaining some commercial work in st helens over the next 3 months but one or two might need wfp.
I have an agreement on a lease for a hot system but i like to have options. If you were willing to sub contract work i can sub it to you if i win it.

Regards

Yes a few IFS but if we cant arrange anything i always come up with 2-3 ways to make things work so i wont be stuck if your not interested.

WFP - Id buy a hot system with the best poles and a micobore reel - you get a longer hose and its half as thick so it wont be getting snagged as much. If you can afford new you will get a manufactures guarantee with most reputable companies.

Brodex in southport have a 3 year guarantee on their products.

If you need a van craig can supply you with a van new, used or leased and im sure he will do you a great deal

Planning on delivering 5,000 leaflets first week of Jan. Any calls then I will go back and canvass those streets.

Opening doors in cold weather to see my ugly mug discussing windows is not what most people want I feel.

£99 for 5,ooo leaflets from Printing.Com A5 Gloss boths sides.  I will give it a go and see
