you have two options,

1  one man trading under different names,, yet it is still one business, a good accountant should be able to sort it all out

2  lots of different companys, each a separate company with own accounts, just owned by same person

y do you want different names, do you think that it might generate more work for you

Ive changed my business name 3 times,

Not for any particular reason except I fancied a change,

I started off in Jan 2003 as Wise Choice Window Cleaning,

Got bored of that very soon and changed to D&S Maintenance services in 2004,

And then in 2006 I changed to Dean Taberner Window Cleaning.

Each time a called my local tax office and they said to make a note on my tax return,

If you are registered with the HMRC online you can even do it there.

All that you are is a number as a sole trader and have a UTR (unique tax reference) usually a long number ending in K from which they keep track of you.

Hope this helps,

Dean.

isnt a problem lots of companys do it, as long as they can be traced,  the only person who gets up set with all the companys names is the tax man if he things you are trying to rip him off

Hi Carl I have 2 business names on my accounts ( accountant said its fine)

One is H2ose window cleaning and the other relates to plumbing (which i still do a small amount of)..

To make it easier just get cheques made payable to you personally, thats what i do?

Cheers Dave

I have 2 business names for the window cleaning side of things.

High Level Window Cleaners and G.A Contracts both trade under the G.A Contracts  for the Inland Revenue Requirements.

you can have as many business names as you want of course as long as you account for them ;)

Nothing wrong with that.  We get cheques made out to 'Ian Lancaster' from lots of our custies.  This means that any of my blokes can pay them into their own business accounts as they are all registered as "(their name)t/a Ian Lancaster Window Cleaner"
