Title: Logo or no Logo
Post by: deep-cleaningukltd on December 29, 2009, 01:03:13 pm
Hi all,

Interested to learn how many employ the use of logo's on workwear. Also when quoting do you use smart trouser's, tie's etc and overshoe's. Do you think it makes a difference?

I personally think it makes a difference. I have polo shirts with logo on them, and a sign written van. Last week I cleared up after, in customers own words "a couple of mingers" turned up at the door, cleaned the living room then walked over a white bedroom carpet leaving muddy foot prints. They then were chucked out. I think if you are charging more than 3 carpets for £30, you want to create the impression you are above these people. People pay extra for quality, but need educated in what is quality, and what is substandard.

I wear a polo shirt (black) with gold lettering. My reversible jacket has a logo on it, I wear "Polypant" Black and grey carpet fitter's trousers and Cat Safety boots after I dropped a custys oven door on my toes when I wore trainers.... Ouch! I wear over shoe protecters in customers houses too which customer's like because I am respecting their home.

I get a few positive comments actually and am often asked if I'm a franchise company which I find rather flattering!

Don't ask me why I went for black, but it does hide a multitude of sins :)

I wear black trousers, grey polo shirt, black jacket.
No logos but van well signed - the client know when I have arrived, which has been commented on in a +ve manner..
I get to the clients in normal black slip ons, but have 2 pairs of crocs (different colours) - one for inside house, one for outside. So easy to slip on and off, which again is appreciated by the client.

I also have an logo ed shirt for com surveys. no tie though.

Tracky bottoms with trainers and tee shirt, lightweight walking trousers with the same or even jeans.
Everything clean and tidy though.

I wear dark clothing because when you sweat then you would look worse with big dark patches, on lighter clothing. (Been There)

When we decided a date to lauch into the big bad world of carpet and upholstery cleaning,
We wanted our customers to do a few things,
1- we wanted them to feel comfortable with strangers in there home
2- we wanted them to either remember our name or something about us so they could tell others about us
3- we wanted to give an air of professionalism.
so we came up with both a logo and a name that was easy to remember.
when we work we wear logo'd clothing polo shirt ,fleece, body warmers, when we meet potential client we wear suits.
after 15 years within the business and training to a high level it was only right we should stand out from the crowd i'd like to think a logo and uniform assists with that perception.

Bit of a tricky question really. Would anyone actually admit to be scruffy?

My own preference is a loge'd oxford shirt, black trousers and shoe's and where appropriate a tie (Mostly top end properties and big commercial jobs). Alway's use overshoe's myself; find there so much easier to take on and off and, as posted by Colin, shows I'm respecting their property. I would agree with those who say it makes a difference even if it only makes me feel smarter.

For those who use logo'd shirts, where do you buy your gear, websites or local supplier's?

Logo all the way.All staff have polo shirts which have our logo on, fleece with our logo on and web site across back. Looks more professional also gives the staff a sense of pride.

Yep! I think I can safely say that I appear to be scruffy.

Cleanly shaven and neat hair (what's left of it). Blue "racing drivers" overalls with the arms cut off above the elbow. Originally they have knees but over time large holes appear there. When they get so bad I cut the leg off the overalls above the knee and use them as my summer overalls. I used to have a logo on the back of them but don't bother any longer.

This is all part of my deliberate marketing as many clients know me as the doctor in "those overalls" :)

I do know that people also find it incongruous that my manner/speech/personality goes completely against the visual image, but they seem to like it and it works for me. At least people know that it's me who will be doing the cleaning. I guess I am distinctive as opposed to being a clone of every other cc. And thus more memorable, hence less forgettable and more likely to get repeat business which is ultimately the name of the game.

If you don't believe the above then just ask Clinton. (There again everybody remembers Clinton's hair  ;) :))

Oh and although the van is sign written it's 10 years old, dirty and got a fair bit of rust on it. It still brings in work. After 10 years trading I find my t/o went up again as it has done every year, this time by in excess of 10%

Must be doing something right. :) :)

Well, well Doctor,

Just caught up with your post. Could you give the name of your overall supplier's, sound fantastic? Perhaps some Jesus sandle's and a Man bag would finish the look (see Gok)

Clinton can you confirm the Doctor's "look"?

Hi Adi

I see you're not too far away!

Get my overalls from

HT Hughes & Co Ltd
91 Hardcastle Road, Stockport SK3 9DE
0161 480 2545‎
hthughes.com

(Just opposite Stockport County's/Sale Sharks ground)

Cost is c£21 per pair.

And I do have a "man bag". I keep my diary in it, sat-nav, measuring tools, carpet lifter, tweezers and cigarette lighter. And also my bank paying in books.

And my over-boots. The trouble is they are the wrong colour and clash (oo-er) with my overalls.

As long as I have my man-bag, keys and phone when I leave a clients house then I know that I can cope with any other situation or items being left behind.

Roger

PS I'll take a rain check on the sandles ;D

How do you think he fell down in the ice? too much money sent his counter balance off and with those high heels he ended up on his backside, perhaps 2 man bags to even yourself up.

OK Doc,

If I had one I'd take my hat off to you. Either very camp or relaxed, hope it's just relaxed!!!

You never know you could start-up an enterprise selling new (scruffy) work wear to the whole industry. Hold on a minute, have I just given myself an idea?

Right you lot out there. I've just set-up a new website supplying workwear...www.scruffybuggers.com
(Specialty wear for Manchester Cleaners)

Does that mean that people from Manchester area are scruffy buggers? is it evolution from the Gallaghers?

Steady Shaun,

Let's not limit the trade to Manchester, there's a big world out there, this could really take off. Any one like to invest in this venture?

Today Manchester.....tomorrow the world!!!!!

Adi, I don't need to invest....I just need to be paid for being the original model ;D

I suppose it'll take a while for people in Sheffield who wear a shirt and tie to catch onto the look. But there again they never were at the cutting edge of anything......except for using a glide ;D ;D

I have my logo on my polo shirts, sweatshirts and coat.  It's all about first impressions and this is an excellent way of making one.  I use www.workwearhouse.co.uk
